Scrap Quilt Challenge
It's time to pull out your scraps and get ready for some FUN! We are reinventing the Scrap Quilt Challenge! Inspiration has struck, and we're kicking off a new scrap chapter RIGHT NOW!
Throughout 2020, each month I'll be posting a featured block as a starting point. If this block triggers a spark for you, get sewing! Make a quilt from start-and-finish (minimum size 45" x 60") in ONE YEAR using the featured block (no previously abandoned works-in-progress - you must initiate and complete a fresh project for this challenge). Link up a picture of your quilt on the featured block post by the deadline listed, and prizes will be awarded.
For example, quilts inspired by the block featured January 2020 must be linked by January 15, 2021. Quilts inspired by the February 2020 block will be due February 15, 2021.
More details to come on the prizes! But you won't be disappointed.
Challenge Guidelines
- The project must be 45” x 60” minimum size.
- Entries must be completed quilts (sewn, quilted, and with appropriate edges finished) inspired by the monthly block.
- Projects may be patchwork, applique, rag quilts, and more, but it must be a completed piece to enter.
- Entries must be obviously (80%) scrappy. For our challenge, matched precut (such as jelly roll and charm pack) projects are not the intent and will not qualify for prizes. (Using leftover scraps from them is encouraged!)
- A "scrap" is defined as a piece of fabric smaller than a fat quarter which is remaining after use in a previous project. It may be from your own previous projects, or you may use someone else's scraps. New fabric acquired especially for a project is not scrap.
- Projects should be made (from inception to completion) within the timeframe listed on each challenge block post.
Don't try to make this difficult: we live in a complicated world, and the Scrap Quilt Challenge is designed to be easy. Let your focus be on the joy of quilting. Make a quilt, use your scraps.
Are you ready? Let's go! Just remember: Make what your heart desires, and meet the listed minimum requirements. We use the honor system but reserve the right to disqualify entries that don't follow the rules. (Hey - if you don't want bad quilting juju following you around, just play fair.)
When you finish, remember the final step: to enter for prizes, you must link a picture of your FINISHED quilt on the appropriate blog post. Only quilts linked are entered in the Challenge. Link to a blog post, a flickr image, a facebook post or an instragram picture. Having problems? Check my post: How to Link up a Link up. If you are still unable to link up - just EMAIL ME! I'm happy to help.(lapaceksorchard (at) gmail (dot) com)
It's really simple. There are no design limitations, labels aren't required, and we're not the quilt police. So gather your scraps and start designing your masterpiece!
Please contact me if you're interested in donating any prizes for the Scrap Quilt Challenge! (you can email me at: lapaceksorchard {at} gmail {dot} com). I'll post the goodies I collect as soon as I have something put together!
