I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm about creativity through teaching and lecturing. I've had amazing reviews from guilds and was honored to be a keynote speaker at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts.
Please contact me if you are interested in bringing me to speak at your event or guild.

Wildly Careening into Quilts: What I Learned By Not Knowing What I Didn’t Know
This one-hour talk focuses on three things:
- my journey as a quilter – including some of my very first quilts
- how challenges have shaped the quilter I’m becoming
- my addiction to quilt along’s and block-of-the-month programs
Take a wild ride as I recount the journey from my first quilt to the present. Through the years, many of my quilts have been inspired by challenges, which helped tease out my true quilting style – an “oddly beautiful” display of color, motion, and texture. You’ll see traditional quilts created quite untraditionally, sampler quilts with a twist, and a wide variety of art quilts. I will have patterns and "fabric" quilting-related jewelry for sale.
Through the years many of my quilts have been inspired by challenges, which helped tease out my true quilting style – an “oddly beautiful” display of color, motion, and texture. You will learn about how I take in a challenge, 'dream' about it for inspiration and come up with a final quilt that is completely outside the square of normalcy. Sit back and enjoy as you look at my award winning quilts and here the history behind them.
Accidentally On Purpose: Writing a Book ... or Not
Follow me on my journey of writing a book ... or not. I will share with you what I did to get my very first book deal:
- Coming up with the concept
- Writing the proposal
- Designing the quilts
And then I will share how that all fell apart - and how that was the best thing that could have happened! My journey will inspire you to follow your heart, your design aesthetic and be OK when things don't work out as initially planned.

Stretch yourself and capture the sparks of creativity in a class with Project QUILTING’s mastermind Kim Lapacek. PQ’s inspired, limited-timeframe challenges can be a great way to kick start your artistic process. You’ll see a trunk show of projects made for past challenges, work through the thought process of the “limited unlimited,” learn a few new techniques and skills to try, and then give it a shot with a special PQ class challenge!
