Happy October 1st everyone! I’m not going to lie – I decided what the theme for October was this month around 7:30 am when we finished making donuts for my orchard. I quick whipped up a fun little tutorial and thought this is a perfectly fun way to use up those scraps!
For this months Scrap Quilt Challenge let’s see your circles! They can be pieced, fused, hand stitched – whatever you want – just use your scraps! All the specific rules of the challenge can be found by clicking HERE.
Scrappy Circle Block
Supplies:
- Scrap Fabric
- Heat N Bond Lite
- Olfa Circular Rotary Cutter
Cutting instructions:
Cut six blocks to 4.5″ square (I chose this number simply because that’s the biggest square I could get out of my smallest scrap).
Cut two squares to 4-3/8″ of Heat N Bond Lite.
Directions
On the wrongs side of two of the scrappy squares fuse a square of heat n bond lite. It should be just slightly smaller than your fabric square so you won’t have to worry about messing up your ironing board but still be careful!
Use an OLFA Rotary Circle Cutter to cut circles out of the two fused fabrics. The circles can be any size and they really don’t have to be in the middle of the fabric either. Just do what pleases you!
The coolest part about this is you can use both the circle you cut out of the fabric and the fabric you cut out the circle from to create your blocks. On your four remaining scrap fuse the two circles on and the two pieces left from what the circles were cut out of. You now have a great start on your circle quilt with these four fun circle themed blocks!

Color Girl Quilts has an awesome ruler – the Classic Curves ruler – for sewing circles and some great pattern ideas for it as well!
