Happy August 1st everyone! Once again the first of the month snuck up on me so I decided to go with an oldie but goodie for this months scrappy theme.
It seems like you can go through a whole year of scrap quilt inspiration without including the Log Cabin as one of your blocks. For this months Scrap Quilt Challenge let’s see your log cabins! Go traditional, untraditional, super skinny logs or thick logs – you choose – just use your scraps! All the specific rules of the challenge can be found by clicking HERE.
Log Cabin Block
I’ll be honest – I quick whipped up a block to show you this morning and I didn’t make a tutorial. There are so many tutorials already out there that adding one more didn’t seem necessary.
Here are some great tutorials I found:
- Beginner Log Cabin Block
- Mastering the Log Cabin Quilt Block
- How to Make the Perfect Log Cabin Quilt Block
If you want to go a little more in depth I highly recommend Judy Martin’s Log Cabin Quilt Book. My mother-in-law, Diane, has made multiple log cabin quilts from this book and they’re INCREDIBLE!
There are also TONS of rulers that will help you make log cabin blocks …
- Creative Grids Log Cabin Trim Tool for 6″ and 12″ blocks (I prefer one ruler that will do multiple sizes versus many rulers in each size)
- Marti Michell Log Cabin Ruler, 3/4-Inch to 1-1/2-Inch
- Creative Grids Curvy Log Cabin Trim Tool 6in Finished Blocks
You have a year to start-and-finish a scrap quilt comprised mostly of log cabin blocks. When you have a quilt finished (minimum size 45″ x 60″) link a picture below for a chance to win a prize. The deadline for the log cabin block quilt linked entries is August 15, 2021.
Share progress photos on instagram with hashtags #SQChallenge20 and #SQLogCabin and/or in the Scrap Quilt Challenge Facebook Group.
Be sure to read through all the rules on the Scrap Quilt Challenge Page HERE before you get started.
If the idea of making a scrappy stripe block quilt is making you panic please don’t! Each of these challenges are supposed to fun and inspiring and to help you use up those scraps! You DO NOT have to participate in each month! Just choose the months that make you inspired and happy!
Link up right below here your Log Cabin Block quilts by August 15th, 2021.
You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!
