Happy August 1st everyone! Once again the first of the month snuck up on me so I decided to go with an oldie but goodie for this months scrappy theme.
It seems like you can go through a whole year of scrap quilt inspiration without including the Log Cabin as one of your blocks. For this months Scrap Quilt Challenge let’s see your log cabins! Go traditional, untraditional, super skinny logs or thick logs – you choose – just use your scraps! All the specific rules of the challenge can be found by clicking HERE.
Log Cabin Block
I’ll be honest – I quick whipped up a block to show you this morning and I didn’t make a tutorial. There are so many tutorials already out there that adding one more didn’t seem necessary.
Here are some great tutorials I found:
- Beginner Log Cabin Block
- Mastering the Log Cabin Quilt Block
- How to Make the Perfect Log Cabin Quilt Block
If you want to go a little more in depth I highly recommend Judy Martin’s Log Cabin Quilt Book. My mother-in-law, Diane, has made multiple log cabin quilts from this book and they’re INCREDIBLE!
There are also TONS of rulers that will help you make log cabin blocks …
- Creative Grids Log Cabin Trim Tool for 6″ and 12″ blocks (I prefer one ruler that will do multiple sizes versus many rulers in each size)
- Marti Michell Log Cabin Ruler, 3/4-Inch to 1-1/2-Inch
- Creative Grids Curvy Log Cabin Trim Tool 6in Finished Blocks
