Final Layout for the Fourth Annual Project QUILTING Mystery QAL

December 31, 2021 by persimondreams 4 Comments

Today’s the big day! It’s time to reveal  the final layout of the Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along.

So – here are all the quilt blocks basically in the order they were made (I put Block 5 at the end …)

So … how are we going to lay these  16 blocks? Well – these blocks were inspired by the braille alphabet and if you put the blocks in the order I show below it will spell out “Project QUILTING.”

So this is how I recommend sewing the blocks together. The quilt is put together in four rows of four blocks. I designed each block first to highlight the braille letter and then chose to place the fabrics to create some fun color blocking into a modern feeling quilt.

I chose to quilt this piece with matchstick-esque quilting. Anytime I want to do any sort of straight line quilting I purposely add a bit of a wave to each line. If I purposely make it wonky there’s no need to be perfect.

This is the back of the quilt … I purposely did not quilt on the squares of Fabric E so that if someone just felt this quilt they would be able to feel the pops of the braille lettering.

And here is my finished quilt! It finishes at 20.5″ x 28.5″. I did add a bit of rik rak (#ad) to the top edge of the binding. I wanted to create something so if you couldn’t see you’d be able to feel the rik rak to find the top of the quilt (I realize I would have to tell them that … but that was the idea behind it). I’m beyond thrilled with how this turned out!

If you haven’t made your quilt yet or want to make one now that the mystery is gone – feel free! The instructions are still up on my blog!

Well, this certainly anything I expected! Very well done, Kim and I assume, Trisha as well. The directions were well-written; easy to follow. Never have done a mystery quilt and this was a good baptism, no fire! Thanks for your reactions/comments on my posts. I appreciated them; they gave me the incentive to continue on. Will be sewing my blocks together later today and posting, probably using my other email address to do it. I don’t seem to have the knack for using Instagram!

    Again, thanks!

Very clever. Matchstick quilting to make the dots stand out was the perfect choice. And fits the modern esthetic. I’ll definitely be doing the same.
