Hello and welcome everyone! I know you are all just as excited for the next challenge in season nine of Project QUILTING! Everything you need to know about how Project QUILTING began can be found on THIS page. I’m also excited that my challenge giver – Trish Frankland is starting to get back on her feet and has taken over the challenge writing again.
Before I hand you over to Trish, a reminder: please read through the rules – read all the way to the bottom of this post – and make sure you understand them. Feel free to ask questions, and we’ll do our best to answer quickly. Note that photography of your finished project must be linked at the bottom of this post in order to be eligible for prizes and for the Viewer’s Choice voting next week. The link up is in a square format so if you want your quilt in its entirety to show up on the thumbnail be sure to edit it into a square format. (Maybe if you’re unsure about the posting this first time, don’t wait until the very last minute? THANKS!)
Hey – it’s Trish. I’m back from the near-dead. Did you miss me? My advice: don’t get influenza. I don’t know how to make that happen, because it certainly didn’t work for me … but anyway, I have a new appreciation for how it’s possible people die from the flu. Yikes.
So, how about that first challenge for Project Quilting season 9? Super excited to see all the wonderful, amazing things you made and it was like a travelogue from my couch. I’m such a librarian, and I love to hear about the places you call home. You guys knocked it out of the park, seriously.
Are you ready for PQ9.2? I have something special planned for you this week. Our theme is
“Triangulation.”
THE RULES:
1. Your project should be (as much as possible) primarily made from and characterized by triangle shapes. The one with three sides.
2. Incomplete or unfinished does not qualify. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline (January 21 to 28, 2018). Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
3. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge (started on or after January 21, finished by January 28).
4. Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:
- Include patchwork.
- Include appliqué.
- Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
5. Link up a blog post, instagram post, or public facebook post to the linky at the bottom of THIS PAGE by Sunday, January 28, 2018 at noon CDT. Alternately, you may email the picture and description to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line by 11am on Sunday, January 28. Yes – that deadline is one hour earlier because it requires more work for Kim.
When you create your PQ entry’s blog post or instagram, please include:
- a description of your creative process,
- the overall size of your project (it’s so hard to tell in a picture!)
- where you are (ie, I create in Lodi WI)
If you decide to just directly upload your image to the link up party please email me this information so I can share it with everyone else.
SOCIAL MEDIA LINKING:
Please use the hashtag #pqseason9 when posting on social networking sites to help spread the word about this fabulous quilting challenge!
Share progress pictures on Facebook, Instagram, and your blog – seeing your process and how you get to the final project is part of the fun!
Make sure you like Project QUILTING on Facebook.
We have created a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group for you to share your thoughts, questions, and friendship on PQ and other quilting challenges. Just ask to join.
And a bonus ask: take the time to seek out and thank all of our amazing sponsors! A little sugar goes a long way, and we couldn’t do it without them. This weeks sponsors include: Fat Quarter Shop, The Quilter’s Planner, Wednesday’s Creations Studio, Aurifil, Kid Giddy, Needle & Foot Fine Fabrics, Hunter’s Design Studio, Warm Crochet, Sew Sweetness, Color Girl Quilts, Hungry Hippie Sews, Wefty Needle and Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting!
Good luck and ROCK ON! And stay well, ok?
– Trish
Please be sure to post your FINAL project just below HERE. VERY IMPORTANT!
I was going to embed this for you all but since I personally don’t like blog posts with musical things on them I thought I’d just share the link Trish sent me if you need a little musical inspiration.

I want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN! If you are feeling stressed just take a minute to look back at the “Words … “ post Trish did before Season 8. It’s a classic and should be revisited every once in awhile. Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a hat to win one of the amazing prizes from our sponsors! Be sure to check out THIS post for all the prizes up for grabs this weeks and to thank our awesome sponsors! Our Ultimate Weekly Sponsor this week is the Fat Quarter Shop. There will also be a special prize for the ‘Public Vote’ winner of the week. AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE! Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!? Can it get much better?

I love seeing the eye candy produced by those who participate in the challenges, so, even though I don't necessarily participate in the challenges, I did drop an email to each of the sponsors. They are so wonderfully generous to support the challenge and I appreciate them!!!
