16.6 – Button it Up – Challenge 6 of Project QUILTING season 16

March 16, 2025 by persimondreams 2 Comments

This is it: our final challenge week for the season. Thanks for joining me – I’m Trish Frankland (aka QuiltChicken) and I’m visiting today to unveil your Project Quilting challenge!

First, a recap of Season 16. We’ve got:
  • 5 inspirations (so far): Mythical Creatures, Ombre, Common Blocks, Birthstone, and Follow Your Arrow.
  • 1 bonus challenge, pending for those who purchased the This or That fabric bundle.
  • 1 museum exhibit featuring Project Quilting pieces
  • About 500 creative projects, completed
  • 100s of artistic visions
  • and I want to take a moment to thank the ONE woman who started this and keeps it going so we can all have a little quilty fun. Kim Lapacek, you are a powerhouse. (*I’m blushing***)
Now, let’s get to work.

16.6 Button It Up

This week, we’re talking about closure. Get it done. Finish Things. I want you to “button it up” – both the season, and your one-week deadline!
What does the phrase “button it up” mean to you? Fastening clothing, or keeping your mouth shut? Mashing the elevator buttons or signing the final contract?
Political pins and band badges – those have always been my jam, and my ’80s jean jacket and ’90s backpack pledged endorsement to brands, bands and beliefs held strongly.
This week, your buttons can be literal or inspirational. You may use actual buttons in your project, or skip the notions and use the word/phrase as inspiration.
And don’t forget to have fun!

Rule One: Your project must be inspired by “button it up.”

You have one week to meet the challenge. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline – that is, started on or after March 16th, 2025, and linked up by noon Central Time March 23rd, 2025.
Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count.
Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements: include patchwork, include appliqué, have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

Incomplete or unfinished does not qualify. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline.

Link up at the bottom of THIS PAGE by Sunday, March 23rd at noon CST (here’s a link to time zone converter to calculate for Central Standard Time: www.thetimezoneconverter.com)

  • Add to the linky the URL of your project’s blog post, public instagram picture, or public facebook posting.  This post – How to Link Up a Link Up may help  you. At this time, if you choose to link up to an instagram or facebook url you will have to manually upload the picture to go with it – look at the section “upload a link” on THIS POST to see how to do this.
  • Alternately, by 11am on Sunday, March 9th you may email a picture and description to {projectquilting@gmail.com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line. Yes – that deadline is one hour earlier because it requires more work for Kim.

Good luck, and remember to HAVE FUN! Don’t forget to post progress pictures because that’s part of the fun.
