9.6–SCRAPtastic–Challenge 6 of Project QUILTING Season 9

March 18, 2018 by persimondreams 3 Comments

PQ_instagram-scraptasticProject QUILTING is heading into it’s sixth and final challenge week.  I seriously can’t believe how amazing this season has been.  Did you know that 571 quilts have been made so far this season.  Do you think we could get at least 129 in this week to make Season 9’s overall total to 700 (or more!?)  In order to do this I’m going to need your help in spreading the word, encouraging folks, and getting it done!  I know we can do it!   If you haven’t joined the “Challenge Quilts”group on facebook please head on over and see what it I’m talking about.  Everything you need to know about how Project QUILTING began can be found on THIS page. scrapyard
Before I hand you over to Trish, a reminder: please read through the rules – read all the way to the bottom of this post -  and make sure you understand them. Feel free to ask questions, and we’ll do our best to answer quickly. Note that photography of your finished project must be linked at the bottom of this post in order to be eligible for prizes and for the Viewer’s Choice voting next week. The link up is in a square format so if you want your quilt in its entirety to show up on the thumbnail be sure to edit it into a square format. Sharon Holland has been sharing some great photography tips to go along with the Community Sampler Block of the week she’s cohosting with Maureen Cracknell.  If you have time check out a few of her tips via her instagram feed/story! quilt Hey – it’s Trish. So, this is it – 9.6. I’m kinda sad, that the season’s drawing to a close. Maybe I’m not quite ready to let it go, yet, even. But we’re not going down quietly! We’re burning into this challenge with unprecedented enthusiasm and creativity! We’re excited to make, make, make! And so, this week, let’s use some fabric. Lots of fabric. trimmings

"SCRAPtastic!"

BTW – that title: it’s a neologism (link:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neologism). I’m determined to make it a real word. I want you to think scrappy this week. The more fabric the better – and at least 12 fabrics, to be exact. They don’t all have to be leftovers, but there MUST BE at least 12 unique fabrics in your final project. If you’re up for making a quilt that is at least 45” x 60” it would also cover TWO challenges – Project QUILTING and the “Scrap Quilt Challenge” I’m also running!  Head over to this page to see more information about the Scrap Quilt Challenge!  If you don’t want to go that big – it’s ok – it will still count for Project QUILTING! amazing technicolor dream quilt by kim lapacek THE RULES:
1. Your project must use a MINIMUM of twelve (12) fabrics, no matter how small the piece. You, of course, are welcome to use more than 12 if you wish.
2. Incomplete or unfinished does not qualify. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline (March 18 to 25, 2018). Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
3. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge (started on or after March 18, finished by March 25).
4. Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:

  • Include patchwork.
  • Include appliqué.
  • Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.5. Link up a blog post, instagram post, or public facebook post to the linky at the bottom of THIS PAGE by Sunday, March 25, 2018 at noon CDT. Alternately, you may email the picture and description to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line by 11 am on Sunday, March 25. Yes – that deadline is one hour earlier because it requires more work for Kim.

When you create your PQ entry’s blog post or instagram, please include:

  • a description of your creative process,
  • the overall size of your project (it’s so hard to tell in a picture!)
  • where you are (ie, I create in Lodi WI)

If you decide to just directly upload your image to the link up party please email Kim this information so it can be shared with everyone else. dreaming in fabric by kim lapacek

~|~|~|~ I want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN!  If you are feeling stressed just take a minute to look back at the “Words … “ post Trish did before Season 8.  It’s a classic and should be revisited every once in awhile. Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a hat to win one of the amazing prizes from our sponsors!  Be sure to check out THIS post for all the prizes up for grabs this weeks and to thank our awesome sponsors!  Our Ultimate Weekly Sponsor this week is Blue Bar Quilts.   There will also be a special prize for the ‘Public Vote’ winner of the week.   AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE!  Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!?  Can it get much better? ~|~|~|~ affiliate ad:  Great Scrappy Books! ~|~|~|~ Colorful Scrap Quilting

This is great timing for me. As I have been wanting to make a very scrappy quilt for a friend. This will be my first challenge – if I can get it done this week. I plan to participate in more challenges this year.

This challenge brought out the creativity in a lot of people. Thank you for putting this on. Too bad it is for such a short period of time. 🙁
