Project QUILTING is going strong and we’re moving onto the fourth challenge! It’s been such a joy to see how creative, engaging, and supportive each and everyone of you have been to your fellow PQers. If you haven’t joined the “Challenge Quilts” group on facebook please head on over and see what it I’m talking about. Everything you need to know about how Project QUILTING began can be found on THIS page.
Before I hand you over to Trish, a reminder: please read through the rules – read all the way to the bottom of this post – and make sure you understand them. Feel free to ask questions, and we’ll do our best to answer quickly. Note that photography of your finished project must be linked at the bottom of this post in order to be eligible for prizes and for the Viewer’s Choice voting next week. The link up is in a square format so if you want your quilt in its entirety to show up on the thumbnail be sure to edit it into a square format.
Hey – it’s Trish. We’re over halfway through the season – are you hitting your stride? Still excited to make something new and win great prizes?
I’m so PROUD of how BRAVE you all were for the last challenge, and I want you to continue with that theme this week. Are you ready for PQ9.4?
“Mellow Yellow”
Many of you have heard me talk about my husband Dan and his obsession with the color yellow. He drives a yellow car, a yellow bicycle, and two yellow motorcycles. I’ve never made a quilt that he didn’t think would have been “improved” with a little more yellow.
But it turns out, this is a color that frightens many quilters. It’s true, yellow sometimes can overpower a design. But it’s also a happy color, and I’m hoping you focus on that this week. Show us your best “Mellow Yellow.”
THE RULES:
1. Your project should feature the color yellow.
2. Incomplete or unfinished does not qualify. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline (February 18 to 25, 2018). Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
3. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge (started on or after February 18, finished by February 25).
4. Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:
- Include patchwork.
- Include appliqué.
- Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
5. Link up a blog post, instagram post, or public facebook post to the linky at the bottom of THIS PAGE by Sunday, February 25, 2018 at noon CDT. Alternately, you may email the picture and description to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line by 11 am on Sunday, February 25. Yes – that deadline is one hour earlier because it requires more work for Kim.
When you create your PQ entry’s blog post or instagram, please include:
- a description of your creative process,
- the overall size of your project (it’s so hard to tell in a picture!)
- where you are (ie, I create in Lodi WI)
If you decide to just directly upload your image to the link up party please email Kim this information so it can be shared with everyone else. And please, please remember – if you have ANY issues with linking up Kim is HAPPY to help!!!! Don’t hesitate to email her!

I want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN! If you are feeling stressed just take a minute to look back at the “Words … “ post Trish did before Season 8. It’s a classic and should be revisited every once in awhile. Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a hat to win one of the amazing prizes from our sponsors! Be sure to check out THIS post for all the prizes up for grabs this weeks and to thank our awesome sponsors! Our Ultimate Weekly Sponsor this week is Wise Craft Handmade. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter! There will also be a special prize for the ‘Public Vote’ winner of the week. AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE! Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!? Can it get much better?
