Fabric Pull for the Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along 5

December 15, 2022 by persimondreams 10 Comments

Hello everyone and happy Thursday! The fifth annual Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along starts one week from today. I wanted to give you plenty of time to pull your fabric so you’re ready to get started when December 22nd arrives. The final dimensions of this quilt will be 27″ x 40.5″.

I’ve made two versions of this quilt so far. You are going to have three fabrics for your background and then three fabrics that should “pop” against that background.

My first fabric pull utilized an ombre fabric that I broke into three sections BG1 is the lightest section of the ombre, BG2 is the  medium section of the ombre and BG3 is the dark section of the ombre. Then for my “pop” I pulled Fabrics A, B and C.

Fabric Requirement:

  • BG1 (light background): 3/4* yard
  • BG2 (medium background): 3/4* yard
  • BG3 (dark background): 3/4* yard
  • Fabric A: fat 1/4 yard
  • Fabric B: fat 1/4 yard
  • Fabric C: fat 1/4 yard

*You could get away with 1/2 yard but a 3/4 yard will give you plenty of buffer for any cutting errors.

And here is my fabric pull using three different fabrics for the background. I decided that I wanted to make the background more color based and then I went with a black/white/grey scheme for my fabric “pop” choices.

*this fabric yardage does not include what is needed for the backing or binding.

Once you have your fabric pulled please share a post on instagram with the hashtag #pqmysteryqal5 and/or in the Challenge Quilts facebook group. We want to see your progress! The first clue will be posted Thursday, December 22nd at noon!

Can I join in after our blizzard stops? We’re in day 3 and expecting more plus sun zero temps, I’m just not sure when I can get to my studio to gather the fabrics for this December 22 mystery

Can or will you make these in a pdf format? I need to have the pages in front of me to be sure that I am doing things right. Thank you. S

Hey S, just do a screen print…you can select what pages you actually want to print out, so you don’t waste paper & ink printing comments, etc.
