It’s day 8 of the 3rd Annual Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along! This clue has the most steps but I promise it’s not too difficult! It’s also the last clue and the layout will be revealed tomorrow at Noon, CST. So that means you need to make it quick so you can submit your layout ideas for one of the prizes up for grabs! Post a photo of creative layouts using all the elements during the mystery quilt. Trish Frankland will determine the winner for the “best” wrong layout! I’ll add the link up to the bottom of this post and it’s the 3rd option on the original mystery quilt along post as well.
Clue 8
Cut
Fabric 4
(4) – 3.5″ x 4.5″ rectangles
(8) – 1.5″ x 2.5″ rectangles
Fabric 4a
(8) – 1.5″ x 2.5″ rectangles
Fabric 6
(4) – 2.5″ x 2.5″ squares
(8) – 1.5″ x 1.5″ squares
Layout
We’re going to start out with the rectangles in the middle of the layout. On two Fabric 6 squares draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric. Place Fabric 6 squares rights sides together with fabric 4 rectangles. Make sure your diagonal lines are oriented as shown in the picture above.
Stitch on the diagonal line drawn.
Trim off the corners outside the stitch line. Press towards Fabric 6.
Sew the 4a rectangles to the sdides of the Fabric 6 2.5″ squares. Press towards Fabric 4a.
Stitch the 1.5″ x 2.5″ Fabric 4/6 rectangles together as shown in the diagram above. Press to one side.
Sew the two bottom rows together. Press towards the middle row.
Sew the 3.5″ x 4.5″ Fabricc 4 rectangle to the rest of the piece. Press towards Fabric 4.
You will need to make four of these 4.5″ x 6.5″ rectangles for Clue 8.
