I have to admit, I had no idea what I was going to make for the Project QUILTING “Hope Springs Eternal” Challenge for most of the week. On Monday night, some good friends of ours had a house fire. It was not a little fire and they will be displaced from their home for quite awhile. My friend had this bird print she LOVED and had finally put up on her wall. Of course, that is now gone. As I pondered the challenge I couldn’t get that bird print out of my mind. Which inspired this piece – “New Nest.”
New Nest
I did a small quilt, 13” x 18” with a bird building a new nest. I thought it was a symbolism of hope … for a new home.
I used HeatNBond lite from thermoweb to raw edge applique the bird and branches.
I randomly used different fibers to build the nest … layers and layers to create the result I was hoping for.
50 wt, Aurifil 2225 and 4256 to free motion quilt this piece including the word “hope” in the trees. Once my friends get settled in their temporary place, I plan on gifting this to them and hopefully giving them some comfort and hope for the future.

What a great idea! Sometimes it is very difficult to see the hope. There was a reason you had some of the fabric or found some.
