“Flight School” Quilt Top

My ‘Quilt Top To Do’ List for July is slightly ridiculous.  I’m pretty sure  have about five quilt tops that I need to finish, start and finish, or design, start and finish … in just four weeks.  Oops!  At least it’s something I love.  I have to be honest – after my vacation to Mexico I was having a hard time getting back into working – going to be early, 100% just hanging with the girls.  I didn’t even visit my sewing machine for FIVE days until after we returned.  *GASP*  That being said, once I started stitching again … I couldn’t stop.  The Riley Blake Modern Quilt Guild Challenge is due on July 31st!  I had had a bunch of blocks made for quite awhile and I just couldn’t decide on a final layout.  When I went back down to sew again, I put the blocks up on my design wall just to remind myself where I was at.  Well – the random way I put them up turned out to fit perfectly to make the final quilt design!  It was like serendipity … the blocks just fell into the perfect layout and it was time for me to sew it together! So I listened … and I sewed it together.  I wanted to make this quilt at least a lap quilt though so did add a sashing/border to both the top and bottom.  It now measures approximately 48” x 63” – a perfect lap size. Love the dragonflies, bees, and butterfly you see pieced into the quilt top?  All patterns can be found in my craftsy shop! I had contemplated quilting this one myself … but my ‘to sew’ list is just way to long.  It’s already packed up and in the mail on it’s way to Barb Raisbeck of Quilts by Barb for her do to her magic!  And now … I need to get sketching!  Lots to do!  I hope you enjoy your 4th of July weekend!
