Challenge did you say? Sign me up of course! As soon as the email came from the Modern Quilt Guild for the newest challenge – I was in! What’s the challenge you ask?
- Make something fantastic that is quilted.
- Make something you’ve never done before.
- Challenge yourself to learn something new.
- Use only Riley Blake Cottage Garden fabrics and coordinating Riley Blake basics and solids.
- Tag all your photos on Facebook and Instagram with #mqgfabricchallenge
- The challenge runs from March until July 2015.
Check out the fun fabric designed by Amanda Herring that you get to play with! My six fat eights of fabric from the Quilted Fish arrived and I knew I would need more. I headed to the Fat Quarter Shop to add to my viable fabrics (remember – they had to be either Cottage Garden or Riley Blake Basics and Solids). Not pictured are the additional Cottage Garden Prints I ordered to bulk up the amount of fabric I had. I also think the pink bubblegum solid is going to drop out of this quilt … but it’s hard to tell until it’s actually in your hands! Hmm … what was I going to do? I decided I wanted to showcase a few of my original block designs. One of my most popular tutorials is for my ‘Wyoming Dragonfly.’ It definitely felt like a good place to start. I made a six-inch block to start – which is what the tutorial shows you how to make. Then I decided I needed a bigger one too so I bumped up my measurements and made a 12” one. A discussion last night really got my creative juices flowing and I know a 24” block is going to be on the table soon too! There may be some butterflies added to the mix and perhaps a few bees or some big geese … only time will tell! Capri had to photo bomb my picture – too cute! Stay tuned to see how this progresses! (It will be a surprise to us all!)
