It’s the time you’ve all been waiting for. The first off-season Project QUILTING Challenge is about to be announced! What’s the deal with ‘off season’ Project QUILTING Challenges? These are not an official ‘season’ challenge but these are what I call ‘off season’ challenges. There are a few different things that happen during the off season than the regular season.
- There aren’t going to be tons and tons of prizes.
- One of the most stressful parts of running this fun event on my blog for me is soliciting sponsors and prizes. Off season means I don’t have to do that.
- BUT if you want to donate anything to be randomly drawn for by participants in the challenge I’m happy to post about it and run the hat drawing. If this is something you’re interested in…just email me at lapaceksorchard {at} gmail {dot} com.
- You have more than a week to finish the challenges. In fact – I’m giving you the entire month!
- Projects should be finished by Sunday, April 30th. Anytime is just fine…just as long as they’re submitted by the time the linky closes (which there’s a countdown on so you can check your time constraints).
- This is purely just so we have a FINISH before we get moving on the May Off Season Challenge. Not only is Project QUILTING meant to inspire you to make something you never thought you would – but it’s to help encourage you to FINISH the project too.
- There is no voting for your favorite. Just link up to be entered in for the prizes that are happening but there won’t be a ‘Viewer’s Choice’ winner like there is during a regular Project QUILTING season.
So let’s get to it!
The Challenge: Spontaneous
My challenge to you is ‘Spontaneous’. I want you to be spontaneous this month. Be it with improvisation piecing, cave man piecing, free form piecing or just in your inspiration.
- Share in your quilting story how ‘spontaneous’ is a part of your challenge. I promise I’ll be flexible on how you interpret this – I just want to hear why!
- Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
- Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:
- Include patchwork.
- Include appliqué.
- Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
- Your project must have a name.
- Projects must be FINISHED and LINKED UP TO THIS POST by Thursday, April 30th.
- I would still love if everyone posted to the Flickr Group as that makes making mosaics and looking over things much easier, but it is no longer required.
- There is now a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group you can join in on to share your thoughts, questions, or whatever related to quilting challenges. You can always post progress pictures there if you want too!
- Please use the hastag #pqoff when posting on social networking sites to help spread the word
Prizes
PRIZE 7
“Quilting Gift Certificate” for $30.00 off the Quilting on a Baby size quilt or larger. (Baby, Lap, Twin. Full, Queen, or King) from Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting.
The Gift Certificate will be good for 4 months starting one month after the challenge ends. Excluding the Month of December for using the gift certificate. The quilting gift certificate is transferable to another person, so you can share it with a friend, if you’d like.
Marcia will do an estimate based on the size of the winner’s quilt top, quilting choices, thread choices, and batting and if they would like to purchase backing fabric from me. Winner can send backing fabric and batting with their quilt top, but I do have it available. This way the winner will have a good estimate of the value of your quilting prize.
Prize 2
Marcia would also like to giveaway to a separate winner a prize of one of her original patterns(value $8.00).
Here are the six quilt patterns the winner will get to chose from:
