It is currently 0 degrees here in Wisconsin. Zero. With the windchill it feels like –11. Yup – that’s NEGATIVE 11! With that weather I’m pretty sure there is just one thing to do … sew! Good thing it’s time for another Project QUILTING Challenge! This is the fourth challenge which means we’re over the half way point of Season 6. If you haven’t joined in the fun yet – no worries! It’s never too late!
Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a literal hat to win one of the amazing prizes listed at THIS POST from our sponsors including Aurifil, Sew BitterSweet Designs, Mishka’s Playground, Waggons West, Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting, Laundry Basket Quilts, Village Creek Quilts, Quilt Chicken and Mill House Quilts! There will also be a special prize for the ‘Viewer’s Choice’ finished project this week.
Heart Trick
AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE! Have you checked out the Grand Prize lately? It includes over $350 worth of INCREDIBLE prizes from the Fat Quarter Shop, Aurifil, FabricsNQuilts, Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting, Creek Side Stitches and Laundry Basket Quilts! Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!? Can it get much better?
Victoria Findlay Wolfe posted this adorable tiny log cabin heart on instagram yesterday and I woke up dreaming about it so I just had to share it with you all on this post for a little inspiration! Hearts can be seen everywhere!
I just want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN! I know it can be stressful making a quilt in just a week but trust me – it can be done! In fact … between the first three challenges 198 quilts have already been made!
The Challenge: Have a Heart
Hearts for Susie
I’m writing this challenge on Valentine’s Day. We did “Be My Valentine” back in Season 2, so I thought maybe a heart challenge.
- Your project must include at least 12 hearts. They can be any size and any technique. Pieced, appliquéd, embellished, even added into the quilting or printed on the fabric will work.
- Check out ‘Hearts for Susie’ and see why hearts aren’t just about love and valentines. It’s about keeping your heart healthy, being aware of the signs that it’s not, and taking care of yourself and those you love.
- Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
- Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:
- Include patchwork.
- Include appliqué.
- Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
- Your project must have a name.
- Projects must be FINISHED and LINKED UP at the bottom of this post by Sunday, February 22nd at Noon, CST.

Other info …
- I would still love if everyone posted to the Flickr Group as that makes making mosaics and looking over things much easier, but it is no longer required.
- There is now a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group you can join in on to share your thoughts, questions, or whatever related to quilting challenges. You can always post progress pictures there if you want too!
- Please use the hastag #pq6 when posting on social networking sites to help spread the word
- If this is your first time participating in Season 6 or you haven’t emailed me yet … Please email Kim at {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with ‘PROJECT QUILTING SIX’ in the subject line so that Kim can keep you updated on the behind the scenes going-ons and get all her records straight.
- ‘How to link up to a Link Up’ post
- If you can’t figure out how to link up … just email me picture(s ) of your project with a description and I’ll post for you … lapaceksorchard {at} gmail {dot} com
- Please be sure to Link Up your project HERE! If you don’t link up in time you won’t be qualified for any prizes! VERY IMPORTANT!
Link up either a blog post, flickr image or instagram to the linky by Sunday, February 22nd, 2014, at noon, CDT.

Aha! So we slackers who didn't make anything for Valentine's Day get a second chance!

Oh–I may actually do this one! I REALLY REALLY wanted to participate in the orphan block challenge, but just didn't have the time last week. I have a couple heart projects I have been saving–maybe now is the time!!! WOOHOO!
