Happy February and Sunday everyone! We woke up to a snowy day here in Wisconsin but nothing out of the normal for around here this time of year. A snowy day does make for great quilting weather at least!
Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a literal hat to win one of the amazing prizes listed at THIS POST from our sponsors including Aurifil, Sew BitterSweet Designs, Mishka’s Playground, Waggons West, Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting, Laundry Basket Quilts, Village Creek Quilts, Quilt Chicken and Mill House Quilts! There will also be a special prize for the ‘Viewer’s Choice’ finished project this week. AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE! Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!? Can it get much better?
I just want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN! I know it can be stressful making a quilt in just a week but trust me – it can be done! In fact … between the first two challenges 137 quilts have already been made!
Two orphan blocks that didn’t make it into my quilt ‘Once Upon a Time’.
The Challenge: UFOs and Orphan Blocks
The challenge for this week is to take something from your UFO and/or orphan block collection and finish it. If you don’t have any UFOs or orphan blocks you are welcome to come by my house and I’ll give you some of mine.
A bin of half square triangle snippets … some are already pieced … some are not.
An orphan block is defined as any block or piece of block that has not yet been put into a project. (I have a lot of cutoff half square triangles, for example.)
You are encouraged to make something different than you had originally intended.
- You may add other fabrics, but the main part of your project should be from the UFOs or orphan blocks.
- If you truly do not have any UFOs or orphan blocks email Kim: lapaceksorchard {at} gmail {dot} com and she’ll assign you a random traditional quilt block to start with.
- Include a picture of the original UFO or orphan blocks with a picture of your final project.
- Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
- Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:
- Include patchwork.
- Include appliqué.
- Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
- Your project must have a name.
- Projects must be FINISHED and LINKED UP TO THIS POST by Sunday, February 8th at Noon, CST.
A UFO mini quilt top I have from the 2012.
Other info …
- I would still love if everyone posted to the Flickr Group as that makes making mosaics and looking over things much easier, but it is no longer required.
- There is now a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group you can join in on to share your thoughts, questions, or whatever related to quilting challenges. You can always post progress pictures there if you want too!
- Please use the hastag #pq6 when posting on social networking sites to help spread the word
- If this is your first time participating in Season 6 or you haven’t emailed me yet … Please email Kim at {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with ‘PROJECT QUILTING SIX’ in the subject line so that Kim can keep you updated on the behind the scenes going-ons and get all her records straight.
- ‘How to link up to a Link Up’ post
- Please be sure to Link Up your project HERE! If you don’t link up in time you won’t be qualified for any prizes! VERY IMPORTANT!

Question for you Kim…why when I try to go to the persons page on flickr it takes me to flickr but never to that person. I have to go to groups and then find them and then…? There should be a how to to link directly to that persons pic isn't there?
