Back in May – my friend Shannon from Fabrics N Quilts added to the original Farm to Fabric Challenge with a little more incentive to join in the fun! Be sure to link up your quilts HERE to qualify for some great prizes. Here is the story of the quilt I made as a result of this challenge. How many of you remember the quilt I made for the Project QUILTING ‘Print Publications’ Challenge? Well – I posted it above as a reminder. I called it ‘Local Foods Grow Strong Communities.’ This is one of my favorite pieces and when I saw the ‘Farm to Fabric’ Challenge I thought a second quilt in the series would be fitting. But what does one do when they only have solids to work with? Find some stamps and create their own fabric of course! I found these adorable kid stamps and I used it to make the leaves in my trees … Here’s what it looked like as I progress. It’s not perfect but I love the eclectic-ness of it. I used Ricky Tims’ ‘Caveman Style’ quilting to piece the background of this piece. The trunk was a bit more difficult to paint since I couldn’t find any fruit or vegetable stamps that would work for this project. Instead – I decided to stamp in words throughout the trunk – like ‘Grow’ ‘Local’ ‘Apples’ (of course) and more. I continued to build on the background with these pieces. Once I had everything painted and the background all pieced – it was time for some fusing! All that was left then was some quilting (mostly wavy linear lines), squaring up and binding. I really like how the 2nd in my ‘Local Foods Grow Strong Communities’ Series turned out. The kids in the trees just make me happy!

I love it! Great idea to stamp on the fabric. Did you use a regular stamp-pad or something special?
