We’re moving right along with the Sixth Annual Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along ! I’m really enjoying seeing everyone’s blocks so far! Thank you for joining in the fun. And now it’s time for Clue 5 and two new blocks!
Clue 5 – Blocks 9 & 10
Cutting Block 9:
Fabric A:
(1) 7″ x 7″ square
Fabric B*:
(1) 1.25 ” x 9″ strip
(1) 1.5″ x 9″ strips
*Strip lengths may vary because of the slices you cut. Just make sure the strip length is slightly longer than the background fabric.
Making Block 9:
Make one sharp diagonal cut. Place the 1.25″ strip of Fabric B in the cut.
Sew the strip into the Fabric A rectangle. Press towards the Fabric B strip.
Make another cut so it crosses the first diagonal cut made. Place a 1.5″ strip of Fabric B in this cut.
Sew the Fabric B strip in and press towards Fabric B.
Square Block 9 to 6.5″ x 6.5″ square.
Cutting Block 10:
Fabric A:
(1) 7″ x 7″ square
Fabric B:
(1) 1.25″ x 9″ strip
(1) 1.5″ x 9″ strips
Making Block 10:
Cut two strips randomly in Fabric A. Place two strips of Fabric B into the cuts. I chose to do a 1.5″ strip and then a 1.25″ width strip. Just make sure the strip length is slightly longer than the background fabric.
Sew the Fabric B strips into the Fabric A square. Press towards the Fabric B strips.
Trim the block up to 4.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle. My block fit better with the strips running more horizontally than vertically – but feel free to orient yours which ever way pleases you. It just needs to measure 4.5″ x 6.5″ when you’re done.
Once you have your blocks finished please share a post on instagram with the hashtag #pqmysteryqal6 and/or in the Challenge Quilts facebook group. We want to see your progress! The sixth clue will be posted tomorrow at noon!
