We’re moving right along to the third clue for the Sixth Annual Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along ? I hope you’re finding this to be fun and not too stressful!
Clue 3 – Blocks 5 & 6
Cutting Block 5:
Fabric A:
(1) 7″ x 7″ square
Fabric B*:
(1) 1.25 ” x 9″ strip
*Strip lengths may vary because of the slices you cut. Just make sure the strip length is slightly longer than the background fabric.
Making Block 5:
Start by taking the 7″ square block and cut one random strip vertically.
Sew the Fabric B strips into the Fabric A rectangle Press towards the Fabric B strip.
Place a 6.5″ square ruler on top of the block you’ve sewn.
Square up Block 5 to 6.5″ x 6.5″ square.
Cutting Block 6:
Fabric A:
(1) 6″ x 7″ square
Fabric B:
(1) 1″ x 7″ strip
(2) 1.25″ x 7″ strips
Making Block 6:
Orient your Fabric A so 7″ is the height and 6″ is the width.
Take that 7″ x 6″ block and make one harsher cut on the top and one cut with less of an angle on the bottom. Place two strips of Fabric B into the cuts. I chose to use a 1.25″ strip on top and 1″ strip on the bottom.
Sew the pieces together as indicated in the picture above.
Make one more random cut in the upper piece as shown above. Place a strip of Fabric B in the new cut.
Sew all the fabric together. Press towards Fabric B.
Trim Block 6 to a 4.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle.
Once you have your blocks finished please share a post on instagram with the hashtag #pqmysteryqal6 and/or in the Challenge Quilts facebook group. We want to see your progress! The fourth clue will be posted tomorrow, Saturday, December 30th, at noon!
