Happy Friday everyone! I hope you’ve enjoyed your week off from Project QUILTING and have been able to catch up on things you may have put off last week because of the challenge. It just now dawned on me, my mother, who didn’t want anyone changing anything for her when she got sick, passed away and took care of everything on an “off” week. Of course she would. Anyway – thank you all again for your support in this difficult time, I really appreciate it.
You all still have a few more days before the next challenge (January 15th) but we have some great sponsors to meet! Today we’re going to meet a new to Project QUILTING Ultimate Weekly sponsor – Hancock’s of Paducah!
Hancock’s of Paducah is a family-owned store. The founder, Rowland Hancock, opened this store in Paducah in 1969. Two of his sons, Justin and Blann, run the store now and they carry primarily cotton quilting fabric There is a really interesting post on their blog HERE if you’d like to read more about the history of the store.
Keep reading for a fun little interview I did with Hancock’s of Paducah!
Q: Who is your favorite fabric designer?
A: Hancock’s of Paducah has a long history with Kaffe Fassett and we always stock his collections. Our fans of reproduction fabrics always love the collections from Deirdre Bond-Abels, Betsy Chutchian, Nancy Rink, and Judy Rothermel. Mr H. loves seeing new fabric from BasicGrey, I think the owners really like new batik fabric from Judy Neimeyer, the Cut-Ups love 3 Sisters, new Tula Pink always gets excitement from the floor staff, and I personally look forward to new designs from Guicy Guice. Having such a large selection of quilting fabric, there’s something for everyone.

Q: If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room, what would you choose and why?
A: I feel like the song “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory starts playing in people’s minds once they walk into our store for the first time. They see so many bolts of fabric, and start imagining all the projects they could create… it can be overwhelming!

Q: What would your superhero power be and why?
A: Levitation… we could stack fabric a lot taller and lift tall stacks of bolts of fabric easily. Forget the pallet jacks, we could just float the deliveries around the floor! It would be so much easier to measure out yardage from a bolt of backing if you could just hover it in place while you roll it up. I could also rearrange the fixtures on the floor the way I want, since the argument against it is that it would be too much work, bwa ha ha.

Q: What was the last gift you gave someone?
A: Personally, this year for Christmas I made my brother’s girlfriend a new stocking that matched the rest of our family stockings. It really meant a lot to her to get something so personal and unique. I love making gifts for people that will really appreciate them. I’ve made several quilts as gifts, including a Pokemon baby quilt for a coworker (and there’s another baby quilt gift for a coworker in progress right now!).

Q: What is your go pattern for a baby quilt/quick project?
A: I love a simple jelly roll pattern for a quick project, it’s a great way to get a lot of impact. There are so many great panels out there, you can almost always find a panel for a quick baby quilt or throw. If you’re looking to invest a little more time, “Stomping Ground” from Wendy Sheppard and “Sparrows” from Pen and Paper Patterns are adorable. We’ve made LOTS of kits from both of these patterns.
