We made it through the first half of Project QUILTING season 13! Over 600 projects have been completed within the three weekly challenges so far. This is absolutely mind blowing and I can’t wait to see what the last half of Project QUILTING brings. Before the next challenge is posted tomorrow, February 13th at noon CST, let’s find out more about this weeks Ultimate Weekly Sponsor – Aurifil!
I sent a little interview over to Aurifil so you all could get to know them a bit better for this challenge. As you know, Aurifil is a BIG company. Today we get the pleasure to hear from Karen L. Miller, the Master Educator and Aurifilosophy Program Coordinator with Aurifil. I know I enjoyed her interview and I hope you do too!

Hi Kim !! Thank you for hosting Project Quilting and inspiring folks around the Globe to challenge themselves to achieve new heights!! Your direction and inspiration is so appreciated in the quilting community.
I’m Karen L. Miller – Master Educator and Aurifilosophy Program Coordinator with Aurifil. I’m thrilled that Hilary passed the baton my way this year so I could say hello and share a few Aurifil tidbits too!
I have the distinct pleasure of working with and learning from all the great folks at Aurifil – a fine family owned business that produces the highest quality cotton thread on the market. I partnered with Aurifil a few years ago to develop Aurifil’s 1st ever thread education program, coined Aurifilosophy, that’s all the rage with quilt guilds and shops across the Globe. There are 34 dynamic and charismatic educators also known as “Aurifilosophers” (isn’t that a great name!! ) that share a wealth of knowledge and inspiration with quilting organizations.
Each Aurifilosopher offers the paid program as a Lecture & Trunk Show and some have supporting Workshops. Aurifil supports the mission by providing a free small spool of thread and color product guide for each attendee.

Q: What was your favorite quilt you made in 2021?
A: My favorite finishes in 2021 were actually 2 projects designed and crafted by Aurifil Designers, Jill Finley and Annie Smith. These two amazing creatives prepare and finish their quilts exclusively with Aurifil threads. Jill uses Aurifil 50wt for piecing and stitching down her prepared edge applique and Annie uses Aurifil 28wt (slightly heavier) to put a stunning machine blanket stitch edge on her colorful applique creations.
I had the honor to quilt these two projects for Jill and Annie – can you believe they trusted me with that? Being a home machine quilting educator these small projects were the perfect size to finish on a domestic machine.

Q: What is your usual order at a diner?
A: My husband and I love to visit our local diner for breakfast so home fries, eggs over well, ham and lots of HOT coffee are my early morning choices
Q: If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Oh, so sorry, there are way too many books in my list to choose just one. I use reading as an escape – the titles are endless!!
Q: What do you like most about quilting?
A: Ahh – quilting all 3 layers together with varying weights of Aurifil thread on my home sewing machine. I look forward to choosing and applying thread weights and colors like some would choose fabric colors and prints. To see some of the ways I’ve applied different weights of Aurifil thread on my projects visit here => The Subtle Sampler – auribuzz
Q: What’s your favorite part about Project QUILTING?
A: Kim, as I mentioned above I appreciate your guidance and encouragement for folks to rise to the CHALLENGE!! Project Quilting making folks feel good about what they’ve achieved in a short period of time. Oh – wait – the prizes !! That’s one of my favorite parts too
Q: Coffee or Tea? (or something else)
A: Coffee with breakfast and desert – Decaf Sleepy Time Tea for a late night pleasure.
