Hello everyone! It’s Saturday night and the 13th season of Project QUILTING starts tomorrow. I truly can’t believe this little idea of mine has grown as big as it has. I know many of you have participated in past challenges but I also am hopeful that many of you will be joining us for the first time this season. Before we get too into all the challenges I thought I’d address some FAQs and give you just a little more background about this fun quilting challenge of mine.
Who is behind Project QUILTING?
Kim Lapacek, aka me! I came up with this crazy one week quilting challenge way back in 2010! I love a challenge with a guideline or two but most importantly a TIME LIMIT. The one week time limit makes me just have to “make” and not overthink anything. It has released my creativity and help me to bloom as an artist.
Who creates the challenges?
That would be my great friend Trisha Frankland, aka QuiltChicken. When Project QUILTING first began my mother-in-law Diane came up with the challenges. A few years ago she decided it was time to pass the torch and I was thrilled when Trisha said she would do it! Trisha is my friend that translates me to the world. She is one of the smartest and most creative people I know, yet she keeps me grounded.
Does it cost anything to participate in Project QUILTING?
NO! This is a FREE quilt challenge meant to inspire you to create and finish quilt projects! That being said – if you love Project QUILTING and what it’s done for you can make a donation to support Project QUILTING HERE. Other ways to support Project QUILTING are summarized HERE.
How long is a season of Project QUILTING?
Each “season” of Project QUILTING lasts 12 weeks and includes 6 challenges.
Can I still participate in one challenge even though I’m not able to do them all?
Of course! Join in one or more challenges! There is no rule that says you have to do them all. If you do manage to complete all six challenges per the guidelines you will get your name entered a seventh time in the drawing for the grand prize.
HELP! I can’t link up my finished project!
Before you panic – have you checked out the post “How to Link your Links in a Link Party?”
Still having a hard time? Don’t panic! Another option is to simply email me – projectquilting@gmail.com the picture and story behind your piece and I will do all the linking up for you! I don’t want anyone to think they can’t join in the fun because they struggle with things online.
I am wondering if we are allowed to use free or purchased Applique patterns or does everything have to be original?
It can be anything – original designs are not necessary. If you use someone’s pattern please be sure to properly credit them.
Is there a size requirement for the Project QUILTING Challenges?
No … unless it specifies it in the challenge which has only happened one time in the past 6 years or so. Make it whatever size you have time for or are inspired to do! If there is a size requirement it will be specifically stated in the particular challenge.

I did the last challenge! It was fun one to do. It will get quilted this week. I have done a couple of other ones. Please keep the creativity going!

P Q is my favorite challenge of the year; creating something from a prompt is a great way to challenge my quilting skills. Thank you in advance for all that the PQ team does!!

By finished, I assume the quilt has to be quilted prior to entering it.
