Clue 1 for the Fourth Annual Project QUILTING Mystery QAL

December 23, 2021 by persimondreams 2 Comments

Hopefully you have your fabric pulled and are ready for the first clue of the Project QUILTING Mystery Quilt Along. Once you have finished this clue you will have created two 5.5″ x 7.5″ blocks.

Before you get started I just want to highly recommend that you check your 1/4-inch seam allowance. A lot of the pieces in this quilt along are small so if you have too much of a 1/4-inch seam or too little of one, things will get wonky quickly.

Block 1 Cutting Instructions

Fabric A

(1) 3.5′ x 5.5″ rectangle
(1) 1.5″ x 1.5″ square

Fabric B

(1) 1.5″ x 6.5″ rectangle
(2) 1.5″ 1.5″ squares

Fabric C

(1) 1.5″ x 5.5″ rectangle
(2) 1.5″ x 1.5″ squares

Fabric E

(4) 1.5″ x 1.5″ squares

Construction

Layout the pieces you’ve cut as shown in the diagram above.

Sew the 1.5″ squares together into two strips.

Sew the vertical strip of squares to the 3.5″ x 5.5″ Fabric A rectangle and press towards Fabric A.

Sew the horizontal strip of squares to the rectangle just created.

Sew the 1.5″ x 6.5″ strip of Fabric B to the left side.

To finish this off, sew the 1.5″ x 5.5″ strip of Fabric C to the top of the block. Block 1 should measure 5.5″ x 7.5″ at this point.

Block 2 Cutting Instructions

Fabric A

(1) 3.5″ x 5.5″ rectangle
(1) 1.5″ x 5.5″ rectangle
(1) 1.5″ x 1.5″ square

Fabric B

(2) 1.5″ 1.5″ squares

Fabric C

(1) 1.5″ x 5.5″ rectangle
(2) 1.5″ x 1.5″ squares

Fabric D

(1) 1.5″ x 1.5″ squares

Fabric E

(4) 1.5″ x 1.5″ squares

Construction

Layout the pieces you’ve cut as shown in the diagram above.

Sew the 1.5″ squares together into two strips.

Sew the 1.5″ x 5.5″ strip of Fabric A to the top strip of squares and the 1.5″ x 5.5″ strip of Fabric C to the middle strip of squares.

Sew the three sections together to create Block 2 of Clue 1. Block 2 should measure 5.5″ x 7.5″ at this point.

Once you have your first two blocks made please share a post on instagram with the hashtag #pqmysteryqal4 and/or in the Challenge Quilts facebook group. We want to see your progress! The next clue will be posted tomorrow at noon!

I’m sorry you’re confused. I re-examined my instructions and all the cutting instructions are correct for this block.
