Hi everyone! The 28th of the month is here which means a new Dresden Neighborhood Color Block block – and since it’s April it also means it’s my daughter Pip’s birthday!
It’s never too late to join in the #DresdenNeighborhoodCBSAL – here’s the list of all the colors.

+ February – Honeysuckle (aka Pink)
– @quiltkt’s neighborhood is OUT OF THIS WORLD!
+ March – Cactus (aka Green)

+ June – Mint Leaf
+ July – Lemon Zest
+ August – Turquoise
+ September – Molten Lava
+ October – charcoal
+ November – Caramel Cafe
+ December – Snow White
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO PARTICIPATE?
Purchase my downloadable Dresden Neighborhood pdf Pattern either on my website or etsy here. (If you already purchased the pattern you’re welcome to join in the fun. But if you look at the pattern and think you can make it without the pattern I’d still appreciate it if you purchase it since you are then supporting me as a designer.)
Dresden Plate Ruler. I recommend the EZ Quilting Dresden Quilt Tool Set too but if you have a different one (for instance – Creative Grids) already that’s not a problem.
Fabric Scraps! This is a great project to use up your scraps! The background of each Dresden Neighborhood is 24” square but this can be pieced so again – scraps work just fine.
OPTIONAL:
Me and My Sister Designs Me and My Sister Double Wide Dresden Ruler – this will enable you to easily create “double-wide” houses for your neighborhoods! It’s completely optional.
10″ Diameter rotating cutting mat (or larger but not too large so it doesn’t fit in your sewing area) – this just makes cutting your Dresden Plates easier. I have one and it’s awesome when I remember that I can just rotate the cutting board and not myself … I just have to actually remember that!
Dresden Neighborhood Roof, Window and Door Vinyl and Cork Scrap Pack
APRIL IS VIOLET
I didn’t have any specific reason for choosing Violet for April’s color. I just knew there was going to have to be a purple neighborhood at some point of the year and April seemed to be right. I don’t have tons of purples in my scrap bins at the moment but I seemed to make it work pretty easily. If you don’t have enough purple in your stash and you want to supplement it you can find some great fat quarter bundles of pink on at the fat quarter shop like Vibrant Violet or Violette Fat Quarter Bundle by Nancy Mink for Wilmington Prints.
I went crazy busy and full of pattern for my neighborhood this month. I had fun just going full out “Kim” and not worrying about much. I love the background piece I chose for the background too. I made some standard fabric roofs but I also mixed in some vinyl and cork just to add some fun and interest.
I hope you decide to join in the fun of this sew along and if you do share your progress with us!
