do Small things with Great love

March 1, 2020 by persimondreams 4 Comments

This weeks Project QUILTING Challenge 11.5 Give It Away is not our standard challenge.  It’s about making a quilt that you can give to someone or some organization that needs it.  To help you out a bit if you’re stuck, Trish and I came up with a list of possible places that you could donate to.  Some of these places have requirements for sizes, materials, construction methods, etc so be sure to do a little research before digging in too far.

Mother T Quote

A Quilt for Mother’s Tears – The mission of A Quilt for Mother’s Tears, Inc. is to help comfort the mothers of police officers killed in the line of duty by creating quilts to honor the brave men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities.

ABC Quilts –  ABC Quilts (At Risk Babies and Children’s Quilts) was founded to give love and comfort to at-risk babies in the form of a handmade quilts.  There are very specific guidelines for these quilt so be sure to read the requirements first!

American Hero Quilts – This was established to provide a recognition and an appreciation to our wounded service men and women who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  Guidelines for this quilt can be found HERE.

Binky Patrol – Handmade quilts are collected and distributed to children in need across the US.

Freedom Quilts – Freedom Quilts, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of comforting mourning families. Throughout the past years, our efforts have been dedicated to those families who have lost a loved one in the 9/11 tragedy and to the families of our fallen soldiers. Through the gift of a quilt, we strive to comfort these families and preserve the honor and memory of their loved ones.

Hopes and Dreams Quilt Challenge for ALS – ALS is a devastating disease that leaves a person’s body paralyzed while their mind and spirit are alert and active. By participating in the Hopes & Dreams Quilt Challenge you help raise awareness about ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), bring warmth and hope to the lives of ALS patients, and also help raise much needed funds for research for a treatment and a cure.

Little Lambs Foundation for Kids – Little Lambs Foundation for Kids is an Organization who provides comfort kits to children ages newborn to 17 years old who are transitioning into foster care, emergency shelter or who have been hospitalized, by providing them with a little comfort in a bag.

Ovarian Cancer Quilt Project – The Ovarian Cancer Quilt Project at MD Anderson was established to educate the public about the risk factors and symptoms of ovarian cancer through the artistry of quilting.

Project Linus – At Project Linus, a non-profit organization, we provide homemade quilts to children in need. Our blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources.

Project Night Night –  helping homeless children have sweeter dreams …

Quilts for a Cure – The Quilts for Cure is a non profit with the  mission is to raise awareness and bring comfort to children suffering from cancer.

Quilts for Caring Hands -QCH is able to distribute quilts to children-at-risk because individuals just like you have generously donated quilting materials, money, and have volunteered their time.

Quilts of Honor – The mission of Quilts of Honor is to bestow a universal symbol and token of thanks, solace, and remembrance to those who serve in harm’s way to protect and defend our lives and freedoms.

Quilts of Valor – The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

Quilts Beyond Borders – Quilts Beyond Borders is an all-volunteer organization which reaches out to under-served children, mainly orphans, across the world to provide a handmade quilt and spread love and hope.  Be sure to check the dimensions & requirements before you start sewing!

Victoria’s Quilts Canada – Victoria’s Quilts Canada (VQC) provides handmade quilts to people living with cancer in Canada.

Wrap Them In Love – Wrap Them in Love collects donated quilts and distributes them to children around the world, so they can be wrapped in love and comfort.

~|~|~

Please remember – the list above are not the only places you can make and donate quilts to.  You may know a family or child in need in your own community.  Perhaps there is a teacher or mentor that you want to show your thanks to.  I cannot wait to see what you all create and read all the stories behind them!  Have fun – and just keep chewing!
