Throughout the month of February, between Project QUILTING Challenges I worked on the Next Door BOM – paper piecing the Federal Building. This block was INSANE and wonderful all at the same time! I can’t believe I actually finished it within the month but I did! When I was done, I proudly and exhaustedly (yes I know that’s not a word), showed it to my daughter Capri and she asked, “But did you have fun?” The answer is a resounding yes! Watching the building grow as each section was sewn together was so satisfying.
Each window has a special surprise in it from a person, flamingo, elephant, giraffe, an upside down moon (oops!), a fish and even a sheep. Finding the perfect fabric to fit the windows was part of the challenge.
I didn’t want to double up on fabrics but it felt like the dance studio took up two windows.
During Quiet Time included the dimensions for the fabric we need to add around each block for the final quilt layout. By December, we’ll just have five large chunks to sew together! I LOVE that. I am going to add some fun trees into my Next Door Neighborhood.
I added fun trees and abstract bushes to the background. I currently have this hanging on my design wall and every time I even glance at it, it makes me smile. This is going to turn into such a fun and whimsical piece full of a combination of intricate paper piecing and whimsical, eye catching details.
It’s not too late to join in the fun! Get your Next Door BOM HERE.
Also – Amy Friend of During Quiet Time has a new book coming out – Petal +Stem! If you love flowers – this is the book for you! Amy shares 40 adaptable flower, stem and leaf blocks that can be combined in various combinations to create your own unique garden of a quilt! I think this book looks fabulous and has the potential to be a book you pull out again and again and you go on your quilting journey.
