Season 11 of Project QUILTING is moving along quickly! I can’t believe we’ll be announcing the fifth challenge tomorrow! Well over 100 quilts have been made in each of the four challenges so far with the total quilts made at 539 quilts! If this trend can keep up we’ll easily have 700 quilts made before the end of season 11 (could we maybe get to 800? That would be amazing – tell all your friends!). Anyway – let’s meet our fifth Ultimate Weekly Project QUILTING Sponsor – the Fat Quarter Shop!
The Fat Quarter Shop has been a company that has support me and many other quilting entrepreneurs for many, many years. It’s an honor that they continue their support and share so much with the quilting community.
I (KL) did a mini interview with Kimberly Jolly (KJ) from the Fat Quarter Shop so you all could get to know her and her company a little bit better!
KL: When did you first hear about Project QUILTING?
KJ: We have been involved with Project QUILTING back in 2012 with Season 3. I was so excited because who doesn’t love a little bit of friendly competition! We had Kim as a guest on our blog back then to talk about it: https://blog.fatquartershop.com/project-quilting-its-time-to-think/
KL: Why did you decide to sponsor this fun challenge?
KJ: We’re all about keeping quilting fun. We all need a little motivation to get quilting sometimes, and it’s easy to get stuck in a rut. Project QUILTING challenges quilters to try new things and break out of their usual routine. Also, as an online store, I know a lot of customers purchase from us because they don’t have a LQS or quilt guild nearby. So it’s also a fun social thing that brings us together as a quilty community! What’s not to love?
KL: Do you have a go-to pattern or method you use when you take on a challenge?
KJ: When I get stuck in what to make, I start make half square triangles. They are the best because everything looks good in half square triangles! The act of making them also relaxes me and gets my creative juices flowing.
KL: What would your perfect day of sewing involve?
KJ: Starching, cutting, and sewing with all my favorite podcasts lined up. As much as I like finishing a project, I love starting projects even more.
KL: What is the best piece of quilting advice you’ve received?
KJ: Go slow, make sure you have an accurate quarter-inch seam, and starch, starch, starch. Then starch some more! Lisa Bongean taught me her starching method, and I’ve never looked back. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5469maPuuBw
KL: Do you prefer cake or pie?
KJ: Carrot cake all the way. Layer Cakes too 🙂
