Blue Bar Quilts – Ultimate Weekly Project QUILTING Sponsor 11.1

January 4, 2020 by persimondreams Leave a Comment

Season 11 of Project QUILTING starts tomorrow, Sunday, January 5th at Noon CST.  I actually don’t even know what the challenge is yet!  Trish Frankland comes up with them all and she waits until the absolute last moment to send it to me for prepping the post because she knows I can’t keep a secret!  I do however know all of the sponsors and prizes for the first challenge and today I’m excited to share with you a fun little interview I did with Gael Boyd, owner of Blue Bar Quilts and our first Ultimate Weekly Project QUILTING Sponsor for challenge 11.1.  After the interview you’ll see the great prize Blue Bar Quilts is donating to one lucky random winner for the first challenge.

K: When did you first here about Project QUILTING?

G: I first heard about Project Quilting when I met Kim and Trisha as part of Mad Mod Quilt Guild and the Wisco Fabric Gamblers. When I saw your exhibit of Through the Spectrum challenges I was blown away.
K: Why did you decide to sponsor this fun challenge?
G: I decided to sponsor because I like the camaraderie and collaboration of Project Quilting. The projects are fun and inspiring. There are usually a few friends of mine among the participants and I like to vote for their entries among others. I think this is the third time Blue Bar Quilts has sponsored.
K: Do you have a go-to pattern or method you use when you take on a challenge?
G: I don’t enter many challenges because running my shop leaves me little time to work on my own projects. When I do enter a challenge the idea has to hit me like a bolt of lightning and get done immediately or not at all, the method or technique is almost always a one-trick pony LOL.
K: What would your perfect day of sewing involve?
G: My perfect day of sewing would be a focused day of production block making with fabrics and colors I love (read: scrappy). All the cutting, then all the piecing and then arranging and sewing rows and ending with a finished quilt top before bedtime (read: midnight). This is mostly a fantasy, or a retreat weekend (my favorite place to retreat is The Jones Mansion in Mineral Point, WI owned by my friend Lori Bartol.)
K:  What is the best piece of quilting advice you’ve received?
G: The best piece of quilting advice I have received is irrelevant because I don’t really take advice LOL. I make quilts because I want to, for myself or others, because it brings me satisfaction. If the project isn’t bringing me joy then I move on to the next project that calls my name.
K: Do you prefer cake or pie?
G: I definitely prefer pie. Cherry, apple or berry are my favorites.

When I asked Gael what she’d like me to feature about Blue Bar Quilts she asked me to feature their new online store option!  I am lucky enough to live close enough and be able to visit the beautiful store whenever I want but many of you aren’t so I wanted to share some of the joy I find when I visit.
Every time I go there I love searching through the shelves and shelves of gorgeous modern fabric and collecting anything that catches my eye to add to my fat quarter stash.  Here is just a sample of eight fabulous fabrics I picked up on my previous visit.
You can get these online here!
Vilma Lobe Stripe Grey
Zip Berry
English Summer Leaning Army
Line to Face Taliesin Pewter
Line to Face Dot Navy
Merry and Bright Pinetree Daybreak
Forest Gifts Ruby Throated Juniper
Catch and Release
As I was browsing through the online shop I spotted even more fabrics that called to me!  I hope you take a moment to look through and see what catches your eye!
Now – what prize is up for grabs for the Season 11.1 Challenge from Blue Bar Quilts?
These gorgeous bundle of low volume fat quarters (you seriously can never have too many low volumes in your stash!) and a charm pack of Pop! by Rashida Coleman Hale for Ruby Star Society!

I HEART Blue Bar Quilts on Social Media – you should too!
