As an Island Batik Ambassador, the September challenge was to use an AccuQuilt Block on Board (BOB) die with the theme “Child’s Play.” The random BOB die that was sent to me was the “Ohio Star” and I decided to cut up a fat quarter pack of Mermaid Cove Island Batik’s to accomplish the challenge. It was actually the perfect amount to make this 48” x 60” quilt!
Actually – I didn’t even have to cut up the fabric myself!
First – Pip peeled off all the stickers.
Then – Cedi pressed all the fabrics flat.
And finally – Capri layered the fabrics and cut it all up with the AccuQuilt GO! Cutter. It was so awesome to have them be able to help me out with this one – especially since it had to be done during apple season! Before I knew it – all my fabrics were cut, and perfectly so!
I kept my design simple and let the fabric make it into a “child’s play” theme. What little girl wouldn’t love the magic the mermaids, sea turtles, and coral images on the fabric create?
The quilt was layered with Hobbs Heirloom Natural Cotton Batting and then sent off to Kim Van Etten to do the quilting.
I used a striped Island Batik fabric for the binding which I completed during a rainy day at the orchard. I had the quilt finished with a few hours to spare! I just needed the clouds to clear up so I could take a few photos before October hits. Luckily it did – and I was able to get some gorgeous pictures of the quilt on my deer fence.
My child’s play quilt is complete!
Be sure to visit other Island Batik Ambassadors to see what creative quilts they came up with this month – there are definitely some jaw dropping ones out there!
