At the beginning of June I packed up my sewing machine and a collection of Island Batik fabrics and went to Blue Bar Quilts. My good friend and fellow pattern designer, Sam Hunter, was in town to teach her “Big Star Braid” pattern. I had remembered at the last moment that the Island Batik Challenge for August was “Star Light Star Bright” and figured this pattern would be perfect!
The class itself was a blast. It was great to see what fabrics everyone was using for their stars and we even got a picture of a bunch of different fabrics all together to make the center. The possibilities for this pattern are truly endless.
Hobbs Batting had provided the Island Batik ambassadors with black 80/20 Heirloom batting and this was the perfect quilt to use it on. Kim Van Etten did the quilting on this for me (isn’t it amazing!?) and said the Hobbs was great to work with. The Big Star Braid quilt went together really fast and I’m thrilled with the lap size quilt I have now.
This month Island Batik has two different challenges going on – one is the Star Light Star Bright Challenge and the second is the Beat the Heat Blog Round up! The Beat the Heat Blog Round up features fabrics from the 2019 Spring line of Island Batiks and you’re not going to want to miss a thing … or the giveaways happening with the blog hop!
