October Blogger Bundle for Needle & Foot

There are some really great fabrics in here and I love a good fussy cut fabric like Afternoon With Deer & Fox, Lewis & Irene Fabric.  I decided to create a fun little block tutorial for you that features each of the fabrics from my special bundle! I couldn’t resist the fun prints in the feathers, the faux sashiko stitches and the dots!  It’s always good to have a few fabrics that read “Solid” to help calm things down a bit … or at least that’s what I’ve learned!

Make flying geese blocks double geese tutorial On the wrong side of  each the Catching Dreams in Spice fabric draw a diagonal line with an erasable fabric pen.  Place it right sides together on the Poppy in Taupe rectangle as shown in the picture. double geese tutorial Stitch right on that line. double geese tutorial Trim a quarter inch outside the stitch line. double geese tutorial Press towards the Catching Dreams in Spice fabric. Make 4. double geese tutorial On the wrong side of the Sashiko in Navy fabric draw a diagonal line with an erasable fabric pen. Place it right sides together on the Poppy in Taupe rectangle as shown in the picture. double geese tutorial Stitch on the line you drew. double geese tutorial Trim a quarter inch outside the stitch line. double geese tutorial Press towards the Sashiko in Navy fabric. Make 4. Flip the flying goose 180-degrees. On the wrong side of the Crystals in Burgundy fabric draw a diagonal line with an erasable fabric pen. Place it right sides together on the flying goose rectangle created in the previous steps as shown in the picture. double geese tutorial Stitch on the line you drew. double geese tutorial Trim a quarter inch outside the stitch line. double geese tutorial Press towards the Crystals in Burgundy fabric. double geese tutorial Repeat on the opposite side.  Make 4. Autumnal Star by Kim LapacekLayout the remaining squares and double flying geese units as shown above. Sew together the nine patch pressing towards Afternoon With Deer & Fox and Nature Elements as you do. Autumnal Star Quilt Block by Kim Lapacek Voila!  The “Autumnal Star” is complete!

  6. Love this bundle, Kim…you are always a surprise in the making! In the fall, my favorite thing is to take long walks and enjoy stepping on the crunchy leaves or kicking them in the air!

    Autumn has always been my favorite time of year – the temperatures are perfect for my physiology, the colors of the leaves as they turn delight me, and the shorter days ease my soul. I can't choose my favorite thing, tho crunching fallen leaves is right up there near the top!

  30. My favorite fall activity is Thanksgiving. Not only do we have family with us, but we also invite International university students. Last year we had students from India, Germany, Taiwan, China, and Nigeria. Often the students will bring a dish of their food to add to the traditional American Thanksgiving food. And we often invite Americans who are also going to be alone over the holiday. Our lives have been made so much richer because of all the friends who have come from near and far.   41. I love your block Kim! The way you put together diverse fabrics to create things is always delightful. My favorite thing about fall is actually visiting apple orchards with my granddaughter! We love corn mazes, hay rides, music, and apple tasting.

  56. My favorite thing to do for fall is baking! I enjoy baking apple crisp, pumpkin bread with cranberries, squash stuffed with sausage & cornbread, peanut butter cookies and fresh bread!

I love everything about fall … the colors, the changing leaves, the apple picking, the pumpkin patches, the bountiful harvest, a fire in the fireplace to warm the hearth. … and, of course, the fabrics and quilts! The thing I like most about fall is the family gatherings to celebrate and give thanks. Thank you to you and Bernie for sharing this fabric and block and the chance to win … 🙂 Pat

  63. This was a really interesting variation on a star block and I love the playfulness of it. My favorite fall activity is going somewhere where I can see all the color changes of the tree leaves.

  81. My favorite thing about fall is that all the summer rush, the gardening, outside activities are winding down and there is more sewing and quilting time! Love the colors here in Maine, too.
