Happy Monday everyone! (and happy birthday to my dad if he happens to be reading this) There’s a fun “Bake Off” happening at the Fat Quarter Shop for the next few weeks that use the new Cake Mix Recipe books. Of course – I knew I wanted to be one of the “Bakers”. Essentially you use a Cake Mix Recipe and Layer Cakes (a focus and background) which helps you to make six different blocks from the units created after sewing. I decided to mix things up a bit and use Alexa Abegg’s Cotton and Steel Hat Box Layer Cake as my focus fabric with Color Daze Batiks from Laundry Basket Quilts as my background fabrics. You layer two 10” layer cake squares together and then stitch along the lines as indicated on the recipe sheet … right through the paper. Once you cut out the blocks according to the stitches you will be left with the units to make two blocks. And here is the top I came up with! This is made by pairing 30 layer cake squares to3ether and using the Layer Cake Recipe 2. It measures approximately 32” x 38” and will make a great baby quilt – nice and bright! There will be voting happening at the Fat Quarter Shop this week … you can plce your vote HERE. Of course – I would appreciate your support (I’m Kim L)!

I voted for yours. I can't believe it isn't way ahead. To me it's hands down the best.
