I’ve taught quite a few “Dresden Neighborhood classes” over the last year and while I’m teaching I make up “samples.” After seeing some of my students make some adorable Christmas themed neighborhoods I decided it was time to make my own Christmas Dresden Neighborhood! It was a great way to use up my scraps of Christmas fabrics and now I have an adorable mini quilt to decorate my walls with at Christmas time! I was so excited to have found the fabric with the Santa on the reindeer … it’s the perfect fussy cut element for this piece! I had a lot of fun playing with free motion quilting on this piece as well. I swirly quilted most of the background in a icy blue thread but I then used a fun darker variegated thread to quilt smoke coming out of some of the house chimneys! Just that little bit of difference in thread color can make a dramatic impact on a piece. I finished this five days after Christmas but it’s ready for next year at least!
