In March I joined in the Scrappy Girls Club Zipper Bag Swap. I have to admit … swaps cause me high amounts of anxiety. I want to make sure I send the “perfect” thing to my swap partner in the highest quality I can possibly do. When I first signed up I thought nothing of the fact that I had to put a zipper in this pouch … when I started to really think about that zipper I freaked out a bit. It had been YEARS since I had made a bag with a zipper – years! So … of course I had to make some practice bags. I am so glad I did because in the end … I made a double zipper pouch that easily zipped and unzipped (I can’t say the same for my practice bags) . My swap partner indicated that they like yellow, red, aqua and teal. Lavenders were not there favorites. I can work with that! I decided to piece this tiny pineapple for the made pop of the bag. For the other side of the bag I just did some improv piecing with similar fabrics to the front. And some left overs from a previous project I had just completed!I went with Sarah Lawson of Sew Sweetness Filigree Double Zip Pouch Pattern. I chose to make the medium size bag and I skipped the ribbon embellishment since I was already doing the miniature pineapple. It was a perfect pattern for this project! Not too big … not too small. I’ll admit, the first time I practice made this pattern I did not read the directions so I had to tear out a bit. Turns out if you just follow everything Sarah writes –the bag will turn out perfectly! Each of the zipper pockets have a different colored lining too (and of course different colored zippers). I think the thing I’m the most proud about it how well my zippers zip and unzip. I worked really hard to make sure they were perfect! A simple straight line quilting using a walking foot and aurifil thread was the perfect complement to this pouch. The swap was a really good exercise for me to make something for someone else but stick to my “style” while I did it. The best part – my swap partner loved it! And that’s really what it’s all about!
