The third Project QUILTING challenge of season seven was “All About that Thread”. The possibilities with “Thread” as the theme are absolutely endless! I finally decided to try something that’s been in my head for a bit now. I printed a picture I took of bleeding hearts onto a HeatNBond EZ Print Inkjet Transfer Sheet. (watch Heat N Bond’s blog later this month for more project details!) It looked amazing – the colors so bright and vibrant. I pieced a couple of hearts, added a border and prepared the piece for quilting. Using my Bernina 750 and of course – aurifil thread, I quilted the piece. I wanted to highlight the photo – the leaves, the flowers, the background – with free motion quilting. I had no idea how the transfer sheet would handle free motion quilting but it worked like a charm! I quilted a bit into the border as well and I am thrilled with the final piece!

The piece is beautiful. Did you iron the transfer to fabric and then quilt? I have used various transfer products but always felt like they were "plastic or rubbery" and would be afraid to stitch on them. This is spectacular. I will be watching the heat n bond pages. 🙂
