I Need a Vacation–Challenge 4 of Project QUILTING Season 7

February 14, 2016 by persimondreams 2 Comments

We are past the half way point in Season 7 of Project QUILTING folks!  Can you believe it?  It’s time for the third Project QUILTING challenge of Season Seven!  173 quilts have been started and finished within the time frame of the first three challenges!  What!?  That is beyond incredible!!!    Be sure to tell all your quilting friends about how great this challenge is and what it is doing for your inspiration and creativity!  Let’s see just how many quilts can be made in a week!  (FYI – most quilts made for a challenge EVER is 72 … can we beat that number this season?)

I just want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN!  I know it can be stressful making a quilt in just a week but trust me – it can be done.  Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a hat to win one of the amazing prizes from our sponsors!  There will also be a special prize for the ‘Public Vote’ winner of the week.   AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE!  Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!?  Can it get much better?

Be sure to check out THIS post for all the prizes up for grabs this weeks and to thank our awesome sponsors!

Challenge 4 – I Need a Vacation

1. Vacation is the inspiration for this challenge.  Use the way vacation makes you feel or the places you’d go or the transportation to get there.  Anything vacation related that inspires you.
2.  Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
3.  Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:

  1. Include patchwork.
  2. Include appliqué.
  3. Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

4. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge.
5. Link up either a blog post or flickr image to the linky at the bottom of THIS PAGE by Sunday, February 21st, 2016, at noon, CDT –OR email a picture/description of your completed project to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line by 11am on Sunday, February 21st.

    • Please still include on your blog, instagram or flickr image of your entry a description of your creative process, including where you are (ie, I create in Madison, WI) and the sizeof your project.
    • There is now a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group you can join in on to share your thoughts, questions, or whatever related to quilting challenges.  You can always post progress pictures there if you want too!
    • Please use the hastag #pq7 when posting on social networking sites to help spread the word!

It took me most of the week to think about what I wanted to do for this challenge and then I realized I have no time to play with it and do it as it would be a new technique for me. So unfortunately I am out this week. so sad. I will cheer others on!

I knew immediately what I wanted to do for the Vacation Challenge; then after 2 and a half days of figuring and auditioning fabrics and adjusting the pattern, I changed my mind. The next day I had my sketch prepared to begin working on. Then the next day I quickly made another sketch, and as they say, the third time's the charm. But at this late time, the lighting for the pic is not good, but it's done.
