Confetti–Challenge 1 of Project QUILTING Season 7

January 3, 2016 by persimondreams 12 Comments

It’s hard to believe a year has past.  Welcome back to another fun filled, inspiring season of Project QUILTING!  I hope you are all as excited as I am to get started quilting and FINISHING in 2016!

I just want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN!  I know it can be stressful making a quilt in just a week but trust me – it can be done.  Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a hat to win one of the amazing prizes from our sponsors!  There will also be a special prize for the ‘Public Vote’ winner of the week.   AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE!  Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!?  Can it get much better?

Be sure to check out THIS post for all the prizes up for grabs this weeks and to thank our awesome sponsors!

Thanks once again to Diane Lapacek for coming up with the themes for these challenges!

Challenge 1 – Confetti

New Year’s is over, but this challenge was suggested to me a while back and I think this is the right time for it.
1.  The inspiration for  this challenge is confetti.  Interpret it however you wish.
2.  Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
3.  Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:

  1. Include patchwork.
  2. Include appliqué.
  3. Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.

4. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge.
5. Link up either a blog post or flickr image to the linky at the bottom of THIS PAGE by Sunday, January 10th, 2016, at noon, CDT –OR email a picture/description of your completed project to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line by 11am on Sunday, January 10.

  • Please still include on your blog, instagram or flickr image of your entry a description of your creative process, including where you are (ie, I create in Madison, WI) and the size of your project.  If you decide to just directly upload your image to the link up party please email me this information so I can share it with everyone else.
  • I would still love if everyone posted to the Flickr Group as that makes making mosaics and looking over things much easier, but it is no longer required.
  • There is now a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group you can join in on to share your thoughts, questions, or whatever related to quilting challenges.  You can always post progress pictures there if you want too!
  • Please use the hastag #pq7 when posting on social networking sites to help spread the word!

With that – good luck to everyone!  Don’t forget – you can find Project QUILTING on Facebook too! And a Challenge Group if you’re want to find out about all the challenges you can in the quilting world!

Please be sure to post your FINAL project just below HERE.  VERY IMPORTANT!

Is there a size requirement? Or rather restriction?

Nope! No size requirement. Just follow the rules listed above. Basically be inspired by 'confetti' and finish and link up in a week!

HI Kim, excited for a new season! I'm a bit confused on this part. How can it be a quilt if it doesn't have 3 layers stitched together?

This basically allows folks to make a skirt or jacket or whatever. They don't always want a layer of batting when doing that …

First time participating. Yay! Do you have a 'button widget' for the challenge that I could add to my blog to link back to you? Thanks for your hard work!

So glad I found your website. I love challenges. But I'll have to skip this one. I have a quilt to add a label and hanging sleeve to this week so it can go to QuiltCon. I look forward to the next challenge.

Kim, you definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone on this one. I'm most grateful, and will check back this weekend to see all the beautiful work. Thank you for hosting.

Kim I love what you did in your piece. I wanted to try that technique but when it came down to the crunch wire I just started slashing and sewing and finally happwy with what I did. I am going to try your technique one of these days.

Love all the different projects! Such a great mix with so many techniques. Quite inspiring! And thanks for the blog posts. Never seen some of the techniques/processes before. As a new quilter it really opened up my eyes up to a bigger, better quilting world! Thanks Kim for getting this challenge going!

What a wonderful group of quilts! I'm so inspired and am so jealous that life is crazy busy right now and I don't have time to create. Fortunately, I can live vicariously through all of you and enjoy the eye candy!
