It’s time for the third Project QUILTING challenge of Season Seven! 55 quilts were started, finished, and linked up in just one week for the second challenge bringing our season total to 122. That is AMAZING!!!! Be sure to tell all your quilting friends about how great this challenge is and what it is doing for your inspiration and creativity! Let’s see just how many quilts can be made in a week! (FYI – most quilts made for a challenge EVER is 72 … can we beat that number this season?)
I just want to remind everyone that these challenges are meant to be inspirational and FUN! I know it can be stressful making a quilt in just a week but trust me – it can be done. Every week that you enter a piece for the challenge you are entered into a hat to win one of the amazing prizes from our sponsors! There will also be a special prize for the ‘Public Vote’ winner of the week. AND, if you finish the challenge in the time allotted your name will also be added into the final hat at the completion of the season for an opportunity to win the GRAND PRIZE! Inspiration, quilting, fun AND Prizes!? Can it get much better?
Be sure to check out THIS post for all the prizes up for grabs this weeks and to thank our awesome sponsors!

Thanks once again to Diane Lapacek – whose birthday is TODAY by the way – for coming up with the themes for these challenges! Stop by the Project QUILTING Facebook Page to wish Diane Lapacek a very happy birthday!
Courthouse Thread Block
Challenge 3 – All about that Thread
1. In honor of one of Project Quilting’s long term sponsors, Aurifil, the inspiration for this week’s challenge is THREAD.
2. Every challenge piece must be a FINISHED project seen through from INCEPTION to COMPLETION during the challenge timeline. Each piece must stand alone as DONE to count toward prizes.
3. Your project does not need to be a traditional quilt, but must meet at least one of these requirements:
- Include patchwork.
- Include appliqué.
- Have 3 layers stitched together by hand or machine.
Strippy Spool Block Tutorial
4. Please remember that these projects need to be created during the week of the challenge.
5. Link up either a blog post or flickr image to the linky at the bottom of THIS PAGE by Sunday, February 7th, 2016, at noon, CDT –OR email a picture/description of your completed project to {lapaceksorchard at gmail dot com} with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line by 11am on Sunday, February 7th.
- Please still include on your blog, instagram or flickr image of your entry a description of your creative process, including where you are (ie, I create in Madison, WI) and the size of your project.
- There is now a ‘Challenge Quilts’ Facebook Group you can join in on to share your thoughts, questions, or whatever related to quilting challenges. You can always post progress pictures there if you want too!
- Please use the hastag #pq7 when posting on social networking sites to help spread the word!
With that – good luck to everyone! Don’t forget – you can find Project QUILTING on Facebook too! And a Challenge Group if you want to find out about all the challenges you can in the quilting world!
Please be sure to LINK UP your FINAL project just below HERE. VERY IMPORTANT!
On a side note … I do my best to make sure I have everything set up to run smoothly but unfortunately life gets in my way sometimes and I miss something. If you notice an error or discrepancy please feel free to let me know – I probably just didn’t notice it! I will do everything in my power to correct and make up for my mistakes but I do appreciate your support and understanding along this Project QUILTING journey.
Another side note. I LOVE thread and spools of thread! I have a few inexpensive tutorials for making some fun blocks if you’re interested. You can find them here:

What a very clever and pretty photo wall of thread! Who would've ever thought of that?! Awesome!!!

How kind of you to appreciate apathy!
Non-participation, however isn't apathy, but the recognition of one's limitations.
nancy hutchison says
is there a size requirement?
persimondreams says
no size requirement! Make it whatever size you think you can finish in a week! 😉
Lia*s Handmades says
your date is wrong 😉 it says March 😉
AlidaP says
As someone else noted above, the date of the deadline is wrong (I think). It says "Link up either a blog post, instagram picture, or flickr image to the linky by Sunday, March 7th, 2016, at noon, CDT."… if we have one month I am happy, but I think you meant February 🙂 I am half way done with my small piece! Thanks for hosting the fun event!!
