Hope Blooms Log Cabin; a Classic & Vintage Series with the Fat Quarter Shop

August 31, 2015 by persimondreams 1 Comment

I always have a lot of fun making the ‘Classic & Vintage Series’ quilts with the Fat Quarter Shop.  It’s good to go back to your roots and remember where this quilting craziness all began!  This round … we’re going back to the ‘Log Cabin’ block.  The Log Cabin block is a fabulous block which can be so different just by the way you choose to place your fabric and the direction you choose to place the blocks.

The Fat Quarter Shop’s pattern celebrates supporting Breast Cancer and I decided to support another cause close to my heart – Ovarian Cancer.

Hope Blooms Log Cabin Quilt

The color for Ovarian Cancer is Teal so I knew this was going to be the perfect place to pull out my Teal Medley Bundle from Cherrywood Fabrics.  I then checked out my teal stash and discovered a couple of gorgeous Petal and Plume prints by Bari J.  And to top it off – a stripe with a touch of teal but mostly yellow, blacks and greys (Sorry … not sure of the designer/line).  I knew I was risking it with the stripe because I had no intentions of mitering the corners on the log cabin where they would inevitable meet.  As you can see … it was worth the risk!

Once I had the top pieced (which really went fast … I worked on it between bagging apple cider donuts for my orchard) it was time to add the applique to the corners.  The upper right is a ribbon.  I used Heat N Bond Lite Fusible for all the raw edge applique in this quilt … this is my fusible adhesive of choice.

To add a fun little touch – instead of just fusing down fabric or a bias tape for the stem of the fabric … I decided to use Teal DecoFoil.

And Voila – here is my finished ‘Hope Blooms Log Cabin’ quilt top for the Classic & Vintage Series at the Fat Quarter Shop!

Do you want to make the ‘Hope Blooms Log Cabin’ Quilt too?   You can!  Head over HERE for the block and HERE to purchase the pattern.

And – the Fat Quarter Shop has created a fun YouTube video to go with this pattern!  I hope you have fun with Hope Blooms!
