Turning Points Quilted Pillow

June 29, 2015 by persimondreams Leave a Comment

I count myself lucky that when cards fall as they should I get to be a pattern tester for the lovely and talented Sam Hunter of Hunter’s Design Studio.  Fabric Pull While I’m testing I can’t really share my progress pictures because we don’t want to give away the pattern until it’s released.  I did a little teaser instagram on the fabrics I had pulled for this fun pattern – Turning Points.  Turning Points is a great way to use up some of your fun scraps and make a project with a big impact!  Prairie Points Turning Points is a paper pieced pattern that incorporates Prairie Points to give the final piece a three-dimensional effect.  And it’s fun, fast, and easy!  First Quadrant Turning Points Sam Hunter does a fantastic job giving you step by step instructions to build the four blocks needed to make this dramatic piece.  Are you more of a visual learner?  Don’t worry!  There is a bonus supplementary photo tutorial on Sam’s blog showing even more step out details of some of the trickier steps.  finished turning point top It wasn’t long until I had the top pieced for a pillow!  Oooh!  I almost forgot to mention – in Sam Hunter’s pattern you get templates and instructions to make a pincushion, a mug rug, and/or a pillow!  A three for one deal!  Turning Points Quilted Pillow detail I decided to quilt my prairie points down … a bit.  They still have some three dimensional texture but mostly they’re stitched down.  Turning Points Quilted Pillow Isn’t this such a great rainbow effect?  I used a plethora of different scrap fabrics from my original spoonflower prints, batiks, hand-dyes, and commercial prints.  I chose to use Simply Sterling Metallic Etched Dragonfly Black/Silver from Benartex for my background fabric.    Turning Points Quilted Pillow I made the pillow cased back using Simply Sterling Metallic Feather Black/Silver from Benartex.  I found both of these fantastic fabrics at my local quilt shop – Mill House Quilts. Turning Points Quilted Pillow I am so in love with this pillow, pattern and technique!  I’m sure there will be more projects like this from me in the future!   Turning Points Quilted Pillow Detail Did you know?  This was the first time I’ve ever made Prairie Points! Don’t wait – go and get your pattern today!  PDF copies can be purchased HERE and hard copies can be purchased HERE.
