Classic & Vintage–Delectable Mountains

June 12, 2015 by persimondreams 16 Comments

They’re at it again.  The Fat Quarter Shop is featuring a new block as part of their ‘Classic & Vintage Series – Delectable Mountains!

GardenvaleFirst … I had to pick my fabrics.  It was too hard to decide on fabrics from Jen Kingwell’ – Gardenvale.  I may have pre-ordered the bundle from the Fat Quarter Shop to ensure I had it in my stash (did you know you can do that at the Fat Quarter Shop!?).  gardenvaleI pulled out fabrcis that read ‘light’ to me for the background.  It was going to be scrappy!gardenvaleAnd then I pulled out fabrics that read ‘dark’ for the mountains – again – I’m going for the scrappy look.

And before I knew it – I had an adorable baby quilt! Seriously – what little girl wouldn’t just love to have this?!Delectable Mountains QuiltOne thing I love about making baby quilts is that it’s a great opportunity to practice my free motion quilting on my domestic machine.  It’s small enough that it is fairly easy to work with on a domestic machine AND it is intended for a child.

I can guarantee that the child is not going to care if your stitches are perfectly even or your lines are right on target.  But what it is going to do is make you more comfortable with different designs and build muscle memory as you work at the machine.  Delectable Mountains QuiltI just had to include this picture because I liked the way the tree looked with the Delectable Mountain Quilt.Delectable Mountains Quilt
I’ve learned to appreciate the wind shots … you can see the stripe print I put on the back of the quilt in this shot too.

  • You can get your free Block Pattern for Delectable Mountains HERE.
  • If you’d like the Complete Pattern ($4.98) you can get that HERE.
  • Watch the Delectable Mountain Video HERE.
  • And … of course – you can get the Quilt Kit for Delectable Mountains HERE.

Head over to the Fat Quarter Shop’s blog to see what other designers came up with using this ‘Classis & Vintage’ pattern!

This is such a happy quilt. I love the choice in fabrics that you made. This reminds me of a quilt my grandmother made… and she is the one that inspired me to start quilting. Love it!!!

I am very happy to see your version. I actually like it better than the original because it doesn't have so much white. Thank you!

I love this. The colours and fabrics all work so well together and it really looks like a quilt you would just want to wrap yourself up in. Just beautiful.

Cute baby quilt. They are just the right size to practise machine quilting. Thanks for sharing.

This is gorgeous! I'm working on the Gardenvale Stars quilt, but in different fabric … may have to pick up a set myself.

I like your scrappy background. I am really crushing on non low volume background (does that make sense?) all color all the time!
