The 2015 Aurifil Designer of the month for February was Joanna Figueroa. I love these designer features each month. I enjoy reading the designers ‘story’ and finding out how they got started, where there inspiration come from and more. As a bonus – they share a free pattern for making a mini. When I saw this months ‘Chubby Churn Dash’ quilt – I knew it was time to pull out some of my special fabric.

These two fabrics are my own original fabrics that I had made on spoonflower.
This piece of fabric is a sketch I drew of the topography of our orchard for my quilt ‘Tree Topography.’ This is about as neutral as I get!
And this piece of fabric is made from a picture I took of a piece of fabric that my daughter, Mercedi, hand dyed. All the textures in this piece make me drool! It’s not very common that I only use two pieces of fabric in a quilt but I think there are enough colors in ‘rainbow’ to make up for that.

Before I knew it, the top of the quilt was finished!

Now … what thread do you I use? Besides the obvious choice of using aurifil thread for quilting – choosing the color was going to be the hard part. Wouldn’t every one of these look fabulous!![]()
And so that’s what I did – I used all of them ! I decided to quilt my rainbow quilt in a rainbow of aurifil threads!

I went diagonally across the quilt using a fancy serpentine stitch. It was so much fun! You can learn more about this technique in the Craftsy Class ‘Creative Quilting with your Walking Foot’ by Jacquie Gering.![]()
The only thing I wish is that I would have a had a bit more brilliant of a yellow. I know it would have still blended like the yellow I used did, but I think it might have shown up in the lighter sections a bit better. I’m so in love with the serpentine stitch!
I bound this quilt simply in black. It just needed something to ‘stop’ the color and I’m beyond happy with the results!
Are you participating in the Aurifil Mini Quilt Along?

I love your quilt with the bright colors. It is so special because the fabric is uniquely yours. Thank you.
This is beautiful, I saw it shared on Alex's Facebook page, your fabric prints you made on Spoonflower are brilliant!
Awesome, as always! Quilt on!
Very beautiful colours choice ! I made it with leftovers solids 🙂
