Challenge Quilts for the Sun Prairie Heritage Quilt Show

March 27, 2015 by persimondreams 1 Comment

Every year the Sun Prairie Heritage Quilt Show has a challenge quilt – my favorite of course! This year the challenge was:  To create a wall quilt using the Challenge fabric provided featuring CIRCLES/CURVES pieced or appliqued in wall quilt. Rules:

  1. Challenge fabric must be visible on front.
  2. Must contain curved piecing or ruching or some other form of cures and circles.
  3. Quilts can be pieced, appliqued, mixed, 3-D, embellished or any other type.
  4. May use as many other fabrics as desired.
  5. Minimum size 20” x 20” and maximum size 24” x 24”
  6. All quilts must be quilted by hand or machine
  7. ALL stitching must be done by the quilt maker.
  8. Must have a 4” rod pocket.

Of course – I was in! I finished my piece ‘Curvy Geese Trees’ for the first Project QUILTING Challenge. While it didn’t win a ribbon, I still think it’s a pretty sweet quilt.  As I was making it I knew it wasn’t ‘curvy’ enough to make the ribbon placement but it made me happy and that’s what matters! IMG_6863-001 the fabric that had to be incorporated is the chevron red/yellow/blue/green/orange fabric. 2015-03-18 Here is a collage of the ‘non-ribbon’ quilts!  Fun – right!?  I seriously love what challenges can bring out in folks!
IMG_7997 And here is a picture of all the ribbon winners!  AMAZING!  I’m happy to say that the bottom right quilt, an Honorable Mention ribbon … was made by my mother-in-law!  Way to go Diane!  (btw … she ALWAYS beats me in these challenges … one of these years …)   And of course I picked up my fabric and challenge for next year.  I think the theme has to do with spring … I’m sure I’ll figure something out!

Thanks for sharing your local quilt challenge competition. Wonderful to see all the creativity. So inspiring. And I love that you and your mother in law obviously share so much in common with your quilting interest, apart from everything else. But as you say a bit of healthy competition is no bad thing!
