The 2nd National Quilts Of Valor Sew Day is today - February 7, 2015. Quilters across America will sit down and sew for our service members and veterans touched by war. My guild – the Lodi Valley Quilt Guild is sewing at Dane Fire Station on Saturday, February 7th from 9:30am to 3:30pm. I have another important event today to attend (Grandma’s turning 90!) so I can’t be there. However I did manage to make up a couple of blocks to be used in the quilts. Patti Hellenbrand from Village Creek Quilts donated fat quarters of fabric for these blocks. I chose the fun blue swirly print and combined it with a red from my stash. She also gave us all a floating star pattern for our block. This was SUPER SMART because not everyone’s 1/4” is the same and these can be squared up to whatever size without ruining the star.
The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. For more on Quilts of Valor, go to www.qovf.org. If you want to make some blocks to donate or have some patriotic fabric to donate feel free to contact me and I can get you in touch with our group.
