It’s August!?! Already! That means I have just two weeks of summer left and only two weeks of productive sewing left! Ahhh!!!!! But it also means just two weeks until I get to munch on a delicious, fresh apple…or 3…daily! AND it also means that it’s time for another off season Project QUILTING Challenge!
Red and White
It seems that the ‘Infinite Variety: Three Generations of Red and White’ show that happened in New York a few years back keeps being brought up in presentations that I’ve been too and then over and over in my mind. The images from that show have been just mind blowing to me! I love them and love that even by just using two colors – so many different quilts can be made! My challenge to you this month is ‘Red and White’. You may use ONLY Red and White in your quilt this month. I want to see how many different quilts we can make even with the same color pallet. Your fabrics don’t have to be solid…the reds can have white prints or different shades of red but they must be all red and/or white. You white can either be white or white on white or white with a bit of red. But again – just TWO colors – red and white may be used. Any size is just fine! I’m creating a ‘Red and White’ Pinterest board if you’re looking for inspiration…check it out here.
Rules:
- Projects should be finished by Sunday, August 31st and added to the link up below. Anytime is just fine…just as long as they’re submitted by the time the linky closes (which there’s a countdown on so you can check your time constraints).
- This is purely just so we have a FINISH before we get moving on the September Off Season Challenge. Not only is Project QUILTING meant to inspire you to make something you never thought you would – but it’s to help encourage you to FINISH the project too.
- Have fun!
- And…if you want – add them to the Project QUILTING Flickr Group too!
PRIZES
Prize for Off Season Project Quilting Challenges: (winner will be randomly drawn from a hat)
Prize 1:
“Quilting Gift Certificate” for $30.00 off the Quilting on a Baby size quilt or larger. (Baby, Lap, Twin. Full, Queen, or King) from Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting. The Gift Certificate will be good for 4 months starting one month after the challenge ends. Excluding the Month of December for using the gift certificate. The quilting gift certificate is transferable to another person, so you can share it with a friend, if you’d like. Marcia will do an estimate based on the size of the winner’s quilt top, quilting choices, thread choices, and batting and if they would like to purchase backing fabric from me. Winner can send backing fabric and batting with their quilt top, but I do have it available. This way the winner will have a good estimate of the value of your quilting prize.
Prize 2:
Marcia would also like to giveaway to a separate winner a prize of one of her original patterns (value $8.00). Here are the six quilt patterns the winner will get to chose from:
- Summer Tomatoes Quilt Pattern – PDF
- Easy to Sew Quilt Pattern – PDF
- Textures Quilt Pattern – PDF
- Quilted Checkbook or Calendar Pattern – PDF
- Quilted Pocket Purse – PDF
- Turn a Quilt into a Bag Pattern – PDF
Off Season Prizes
- One of the most stressful parts of running a fun event on my blog for me is soliciting sponsors and prizes. Off season means I don’t have to do that.
- BUT if you want to donate anything to be randomly drawn for by participants in the challenge I’m happy to post about it and run the hat drawing. If this is something you’re interested in…just email me at lapaceksorchard {at} gmail {dot} com.

Love this idea! Our guild did this challenge at the last quilt show. I had a hard time finding rw fabrics without brown yellow or black also in the prints. here is what I made http://cyarnell.blogspot.com/2012/01/red-and-white-quilt-challenge-quilt.html
