I had the pleasure of joining in the fun of the ‘Springtime Flower’s Mug Rug Swap’ run by the Quilting Gallery. Once you signed up you found out who your partner was, you made them two mug rugs from Patchsmith patterns (included in the swap fee). My swap partner was Miriam from Ireland! (How neat is that!?) I asked her if she had any preferences on fabrics and she didn’t. She gave me complete artistic control (my favorite kind of partner – zero stress).I am in love with the Laura Gunn ‘Edges’ prints. I chose to use these as my backgrounds. And here is my ‘Growing Flower’s Mug Rug’. I put together a package for my partner and put it in the mail. She thought they were lovely! A bit later I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my mail to find these! So adorable! I’ll admit – I don’t really use mug rugs as mug rugs – BUT they are perfect for my little girls’ tea parties and work wonderfully for doll blankets! Not only am I thrilled with these wonderful miniature quilts – my girls are thrilled too! As a bonus – Miriam included these incredible quilted postcards with the mug rugs! They are adorable and impeccably made! I just love the fancy stitch she did around the border of the postcards. This was my third mug rug swap through the Quilting Gallery and I truly enjoyed the experience. It’s always fun to make something for someone else and to have an opportunity to ‘meet’ a quilter from another country. An added bonus – she’s making the trek to the Quilt Festival in Huston and the end of October and so am I! We’re going to try to meet up while you’re there…you never know where your next friendship will be forged.

You had such fun making the rugs and meeting new quilt friends online. What a great idea to meet in Houston, too. Something to anticipate.
