I’ve been MIA for a few day’s here as this past Saturday was the 2014 Lodi Valley Quilter’s Guild Quilt Academy! I attended it in 2013 but this year I was a volunteer. My job was to take all the donations, put them into gift baskets, and set up the table for folks to try to win one. There were 71 of these to wrap up. I’m so thankful that I had some great friends offer to help me do all this and we had fun while we were at it too! (or at least I did!) 17 different quilt shops set up for the show. In order to have a booth they had to agree to teach a one hour class for three sessions. During the break times the academy attendees were able to shop the booths. This year, the Academy also put up a small quilt show. Here you can see that Diane Lapacek, Trish Frankland, and I, all hung our ‘Project QUILTING’ Fat Quarter Shop Challenge Quilts from 2013. The show stoppers were these six Round Robin quilts that six of the Lodi Valley Quilt Guild Members did together. Each lady started their own quilts center block and they passed it along from there with a rule set for each round. From the upper left corner – Kathy Stroshane’s quilt, Mindy Skinners quilt, Joyce Hach’s quilt, Joyce Steckle’s quilt, Patti Hellenbrand’s quilt, and lastly, Linda Mitchell’s quilt. The show also showed off all the different challenge quilts the guild members made for this year’s challenge ‘It’s Spring’. more challenge quilts… and a few more challenge quilts…The main part of the Academy are the classes we get to take that are given from the different vendors at the show. I had a great ‘Scrap quilt’ class from the owner of Mil House Quilts. I also took a great classes on quilt borders! I did miss my third class because I was picking winners for the prize baskets…. It was a wonderful day and I know myself and 300+ other folks are looking forward again for next year’s Academy!
