BOM Updates

I realized that I’ve had so much to share with you all this month that I haven’t shown you my progress on the BOMs for 2014.  I am still only working on two but I do think I perhaps have the third figured out.

Pat Sloan’s Globetrotting Mystery BOM travelled to Venice this month.

Here is my version of the block.

 

 

I am having  a lot of fun with this unexpected fabric combination.  I really enjoyed making the Venice block.  It went together fast and even with the smaller pieces it was easy to piece this block accurately.

The other BOM I’m participating in is the Aurifil one of course.

Amy Gibson was this months designer and I was first introduced to her over at Craftsy for the 2012 FREE BOM she hosted and taught.  She’s an excellent teacher and I learned SO MUCH from the BOM she ran – seriously – it was amazing!  Here’s my version of her block ‘Mother’s Day’.  Lots of fun HST in this one.  The one thing I would do differently is I would cut my initial squares larger and then trim up to my HST.  I know that I’m not a very accurate piecer and even though trimming up can be tedious and take more time my blocks in the end appreciate me more for it.  I’m not saying Amy’s method doesn’t work – it does…you just have to know that your seam allowances are right on.  And to do that, I have to be much more meticulous and that is just not me and it will never be me.  But for me to trim up…I can handle that.

Definitely not my typical style but I think folks will still be able to tell it’s a ‘Kim Quilt’.
