Winterstrings

Project Quilting 5:1
Quick, one-day pillows to coordinate with the new bed quilt I made my husband for Christmas. I was not super-creative this week, but very satisfied with how great these pillows look on my bed. I really like the design of the pinwheel-set quarter-square triangle pillow…that idea might have to be a quilt someday. Made by Emma Thomas-McGinnis, Urbandale, IA One pillow is 14" square, the other 12" square. Both were made quilt as you go, pocket-style backs and bound edges.

Sparkling Trees Surrounded by a Rainbow

The title for my string project is Sparkling Trees Surrounded by a Rainbow. All pieces of fabric measure from 1 to 2 inches in width. I didn’t think the trees popped enough so I added some clear fabric paint with glitter. Now I think they look more like Christmas trees so I think I will add decorations and embroidered snowflakes in the background for a Christmas wall hanging for next year. The size of the finished project is 19 1/2 inches by 22 inches. It was made with scraps from leftover projects, and the rainbow binding just made me smile. Project sewed and quilted in Maxwell, Iowa.

Quilter: Bailey Pritchard

Bee-You-tiful!

This quilt is a 26" x 10" wall hanging. I have am new to quilting…I’ve taken a couple of basic classes, and now just experiment and see what I can make. I live in Knoxville, MD. And I am a college student. This is not what I originally planned to make, but when I changed my mind and got going with this I loved it. My first initial is B, and my family nickname is Bee. I tend to love Bee themed items, and that is where this theme came from. I called it "Bee-You-tiful". A favorite song of mine has a chorus "there could never be a more beautiful you", and I wanted to incorporate that. I had a lot of fun with this challenge and testing my quilting skills and creativity, and I love seeing other people’s projects!

Modern Strings

I love string quilts and was so excited this challenge was strings! I had a stack of fabrics sitting on my cut space from a bee block so I decided to stick with that color pallet and jumped right in. I cut 1.5" and 2" strips off of 15 different fabrics and went to town randomly sewing them together. I then made a layout that was a little different than the traditional string quilt. The quilt was then quilted with a checkered pattern, except the diamond which was just outlined. It is then bound with a fun grey stripe. It measured 52" x 52"
I created Modern Strings in my home in Lanoka Harbor, NJ

Quilter:  Kelly Kroon

Kelly’s Coneflower

made by Kelly Kroon in Reedsburg,.WI. it is titled Kelly’s Coneflower. It is 36" x 47"
As soon as the challenge was posted, the quilt popped into my head. I love to combine piecing and applique. I think there will be more string pieced quilts in my future!
